PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL announced Tuesday that Indy Fuel forward Alex Wideman has been selected as the Sher-Wood Hockey/ECHL Player of the Week for Nov. 14-20. Wideman tallied four goals, three assists and posted a +7 rating over Indy's three-game home sweep in Week 6 of the ECHL campaign.
The 24-year-old grabbed a goal and an assist in both the Fuel's 6-1 win over Wheeling on Friday and their 4-3 defeat of Atlanta Saturday. Wideman finished the weekend with two goals and an assist in Indy's 6-5 triumph over the Gladiators. Through 14 games the St. Louis native leads the Fuel with seven goals and 13 points.
A graduate of Miami University and former member of the USHL's Indiana Ice, Wideman has accrued 52 points (22g, 30a) in 72 career ECHL games with the Fuel and Evansville IceMen. The second year pro has also appeared in 11 American Hockey League games with the Binghamton Senators. In four years with the RedHawks, Wideman racked up 56 points (24g, 32a) in 140 total NCAA games.
On behalf of Wideman, a case of pucks will be donated to an Indy youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 35,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
The Fuel also announced Tuesday that they have signed defenseman Keevin Cutting to an ECHL contract. The 6-foot-2, 192-pound rookie appeared in 14 games this season with HK SKP Poprad in Slovakia, after playing three years of Canadian University with Ryerson University and the University of New Brunswick.
