Wheeling Nailers News Release

Saturday night in Wheeling, the Nailers battled strong against the Cincinnati Cyclones, but couldn't get one past goalie Zoltan Hetenyi, who turned in a 31-save shutout performance. Scott Darling nearly matched Hetenyi, but Garrett Wilson's two goals were the difference, in a 2-0 road win for Cincinnati.

The Nailers came out fast in the first period peppering Hetenyi, with an 8-1 shots advantage at one point, but none lit the lamp. When the second period came to an end, Wheeling held a 22-10 lead in shots on goal, but the game remained scoreless.

At 7:10 of the third period, with Cincinnati on the power play, Garrett Wilson capitalized on a loose puck in the slot, en route to waiting out Scott Darling, who he beat through the legs. Later in the third, with less than a minute left, Wilson scored an empty netter, to clinch the Cyclones' 2-0 win over the Nailers.

Zoltan Hetenyi earned the shutout for the Cyclones, turning aside 31 Wheeling shots. Scott Darling took the tough luck defeat, despite making 14 saves on 15 shots. Darling also saw his AHL/ECHL shutout streak come to an end at an impressive 135:16.

The Nailers will conclude their three-game homestand on Wednesday at 7:00, when they welcome the Trenton Titans to WesBanco Arena. For ticket information, call 304-234-GOAL, or log on to wheelingnailers.com.
