Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles defeated the Florida Everblades, 4-1, taking two of three games from the defending ECHL champions this week. Adam Brown, making his first start since Oct. 17 -- and seeing his first action of any kind since Oct. 20 -- stopped every shot Florida threw his way, and Colorado's penalty killers went a perfect 6-for-6 against the league's 3rd ranked power play to backstop the win. The Eagles' offense was powered mostly by the league's top three scorers as Chad Costello, Jack Combs & Michael Forney combined for six points (3-3-6).

Colorado was tasked with killing a four minute double-minor right out of the gates, but not only did they kill it successfully, they held Florida without a shot and possessed the puck for the majority of the time. The Eagles then struck on their own man advantage at 7:49 when Forney deflected an Arthur Bidwill shot from the left point to make it 1-0. Colorado finished the frame with a 9-3 edge in shots, tied for the third-fewest shots they've ever allowed in a period.

Just under six minutes into the second period Adam Brown came up with a big stop on a 2-on-1 Florida rush, and after the play went the other way, Forney ended up with the puck in the left corner before making a power move to the net to deposit his second goal of the game. That score made it 2-0 for Colorado, and extended the forward's league lead in goals to 15.

The Eagles continued to stymie Florida's scoring chances, but at 16:21, Colorado aided the Everblades' efforts with an own-goal by Riley Nelson. But two minutes later the Eagles' top line responded to restore the two-goal lead when Combs found a wide open Forney in the low slot. Forney -- one goal away from his second hat trick of the season -- patiently waited before sending a pass to an also-wide open Costello to the left of the crease for an easy score.

Florida fought its hardest in the final frame, out-shooting the Eagles 13-4, but they couldn't get another goal. And with Pat Nagle pulled for an extra attacker as time wound down, Trent Daavettila cleared the puck from behind his own goal and it banked off the boards and wobbled into the vacated cage nearly 200 feet away.

After taking on the league's past two champions in back-to-back series (Alaska last week), the Eagles will head to Idaho to take on the Steelheads in three games next week.
