Nailers Barton Named ECHL Rookie of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Wheeling Nailers forward Chris Barton is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Rookie of the Month for November.

The 24-year-old scored seven goals, added eight assists assists and was a +6 in 10 games during the month. Barton scored at least one point in all but one game during November.

Barton notched mulitiple-point games five times during the month, including a three points (2g-1a) in a 5-3 win against Elmira on Nov. 15. That game was the third in a four-game stretch where Barton tallied nine points (4g-5a) and went +5. He was named ECHL Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 21 when he scored four goals, had two assists and was +4 in three games.

A native of Calgary, Alberta, Barton leads ECHL rookies, and is third overall in the league, with 12 goals while his 21 points are tied for tied for second among first-year players and tied for sixth in the league.

Prior to this season, Barton played in 141 career games at Merrimack College, where he scored 48 goals and 71 assists for 119 points. He also skated in one game in the AHL for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers last season.

Wheeling will play a pair of games this weekend, starting on Friday night, when they visit the Reading Royals at 7:05. Then, on Saturday night, the Nailers will return to WesBanco Arena for a 7:35 face-off against the Trenton Titans.
