
Grubauer Named ECHL Goaltender of the Month

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals, announced today that goaltender Philipp Grubauer has been named the ECHL Goaltender of the Month for November.
Grubauer, 20, went 6-1-1 with one shutout, a 1.73 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage in eight appearances for the Stingrays in November. The Rosenheim, Germany, native opened the month with three straight victories, including a 26-save performance in a 1-0 shutout of Toledo on Nov. 5. He also finished the month with three consecutive victories over Gwinnett, including stopping 35 of 36 shots in a 6-1 win on Nov. 20.
A fourth-round selection (112th overall) by the Washington Capitals in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Grubauer is tied for second in the ECHL with nine wins and is second with a 1.80 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage. The 6-foot-1, 186-pound goaltender appeared in 11 games with the Stingrays this season, posting a record of 9-1-1 and was named ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending Nov. 6. Prior to turning pro, Grubauer spent three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, compiling a record of 52-36-10 in 105 games with Belleville, Windsor, and Kingston.
The Stingrays return to action tonight, Friday, December 2 and Saturday, December 3 against the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. Tonight is Teacher Appreciation Night, Nature Night with a special appearance from Smokey Bear and $5 Beer!
