Wheeling Nailers News Release

The Wheeling Nailers, AA affiliate for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, have made a trade, with the roster moves taking effect immediately. The Nailers have acquired forward Matt Schepke from the Reading Royals, in exchange for forward Mickael Bedard.

Schepke, 27, is currently in the midst of his third full season of professional hockey, following a three-year collegiate career at Michigan State University, which included a National Championship in 2007. After posting 28 goals, 26 assists, and 54 points in 98 games with the Spartans, Matt turned pro, and immediately registered nine points in 12 games for the ECHL's Charlotte Checkers in the spring of 2009. Schepke spent the majority of the 2009-10 season with the Checkers, and proceeded to score 26 goals, 20 assists, and 46 points, before injuries limited him to 12 points in 15 games with the Greenville Road Warriors last season. So far this season, the Warren, MI native has eight goals, 13 assists, and 21 points, which all came as a member of the Reading Royals.

Bedard, 24, is currently in the midst of his second season in the ECHL, following three seasons of junior hockey, as well as one year each in the LNAH and IHL. As a rookie last season, Mickael recorded 20 goals, 27 assists, and 47 points in 48 regular season games, before adding five goals, four assists, and nine points, during Wheeling's run to the Eastern Conference Final. In 40 games thus far this season, the Quebec, QC native has ten goals, 13 assists, and 23 points.

Schepke is expected to join the Nailers in time for Friday night's home game against the Elmira Jackals at 7:35, and will be wearing uniform number 28.
