ESTERO, FL --Leigh Salters scored twice while Shane Owen made 27 saves to earn his second shutout of the season as the Florida Everblades soar to an 8-0 rout of the Reading Royals at Germain Arena Friday night. The win snaps a seven game winless streak for the Everblades.
Florida wasted little time to get started in the first period and opened up the scoring at the two minute mark. The goal came when captain Mathieu Roy found his assistant Trevor Bruess whose point blank shot was able to beat Reading goalie Jussi Rynnas to put the Blades up 1-0.
Following the goal, the defenses would take over the period allowing the Everblades to go into the Period with a one goal lead.
The Everblades could do no wrong in the second period, as they piled on four more goals and goalie Shane Owen and the Florida defense kept Reading off the score board. Ryan Galiardi opened up the period's scoring at the seven-minute mark when he found a pass from Braden Irwin at the right side circle and fired a wrist shot that screamed past Rynnas into the net giving Florida a two goal lead.
Nearly, three minutes later Florida's lead increased to three when Mike Ratchuk delivered a pass to Leigh Salters who put the puck into the back of the net from right in front of the net. Twenty-two seconds later Matt Beca added a goal of his own, as he swung the puck on the right side of the crease and beat Rynnas giving the Blades a 4-0 lead.
Salters added his second goal of the period at the 16-minute mark when Ryan Donald found him in the slot, and Salters fired the puck past Rynnas, giving the Everblades a 5-0 lead.
Florida showed no mercy in the third period adding three more goals from Ryan McGinnis, who scored his first of the season at 2:58 of the period. The goal chased Rynnas from the game, and rookie Karel St. Laurent came in relief. Matt Marquardt scored his team leading 17th tally of the season as he beat St. Laurent on a wrist shot to extend the lead to 7-0. Ratchuk added the eighth goal of the game nearly four minutes later to seal the commanding 8-0 win.
Shane Owen earns the win stopping all 27 shots while Jussi Rynnas takes the loss stopping allowing six goals on 29 shots. St. Laurent stopped seven of nine shots in a relief effort.
