Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Rochester, New York - A duo of five-run innings was more than enough offense to pave the way to a 10-5 win for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (75-63, 39-26) over the Rochester Red Wings (63-72, 29-33) on Wednesday night at Innovative Field.
Scoreless through the first three innings, the IronPigs put their first five-spot on the board in the fourth. Matt Kroon homered to open the frame, his second of the season. After back-to-back walks, Drew Ellis singled in a run before Brewer Hicklen doubled to add on two more. Scott Kingery then dropped down a bunt for a base hit, with a throwing error on the play allowing Hicklen to score to make it 5-0.
Jake Noll homered in the last of the fourth to get Rochester on the board before they scored three times in the fifth thanks to a Derek Hill RBI single and two-run double from Blake Rutherford.
Rochester tied the game in the sixth on a sacrifice fly but this immediately spurred the IronPigs back into action as they pushed five more across in the seventh. The IronPigs put men on the corners to start the frame and Kroon then dunked a single into rightfield to plate the go-ahead run. Aramis Garcia then launched a three-run homer to centerfield, his 13th of the season. Hicklen capped the frame with a solo homer, his first with the IronPigs, making it 10-5.
Taylor Lehman (3-0) secured the win for the IronPigs in relief. Lehman worked 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing just a walk.
Lucas Knowles (0-1) suffered the loss for the Red Wings, allowing three runs in an inning-plus of work on two hits and a walk, striking out one.
The IronPigs continue their series with the Red Wings on Thursday, September 14, with first pitch slated for 6:05 p.m.
