Toledo's Carlos Pena hit a two-run homer in the top of the 8th inning which would account for the margin of victory in a Mudhens 4-2 win over Ottawa. RHP Matt Bruback gave up two earned runs on four hits over 7.0 innings for Ottawa, while OF Bobby Darula had a pinch-hit RBI single. The loss is the Lynx fourth straight, and sees their record fall to 36-35 on the season.
Player of the Game: Toledo starter Jason Grilli gave up two runs on four hits in 7.0 innings in a winning effort for Toledo.
Key Plays: With Toledo up 2-1 in the 8th inning, 1B Carlos Pena blasted a two-run homer to right to increase the Mudhens lead to 4-1.
Recap: Ottawa jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. 2B Bernie Castro walked, stole second and moved to third on a base hit by Tim Raines Jr. Two outs later Castro came to count when Toledo starter Jason Grilli uncorked a wild pitch, giving Ottawa a 1-0 lead. Toledo replied in the top of the third scoring runs on an RBI groundout by Carlos Pena and a sacrifice fly by Marcus Thames. The score remained 2-1 into the 8th, when Toledo rallied off of Lynx reliever Aaron Rakers. Curtis Granderson walked to lead off, and was followed by Carlos Pena's two-run homer to right, putting Toledo up 4-1. Ottawa got one run back in the bottom of the 8th as Ramon Nivar singled, stole second and scored on pinch-hitter Bobby Darula's line drive single to right. The Lynx would get no closer, and would drop their fourth straight game by the score of 4-2.
Notes: Prior to the game Ottawa activated INF Bernie Castro from the temporarily inactive list as OF David Newhan was recalled to Baltimore....Castro and LHP Tim Byrdak were named to the IL All-star team earlier in the day.
Next Game: The Lynx and Mudhens complete their four-game series with a special 12:05 pm afternoon game on Thursday.
