Charlotte Knights News Release
FORT MILL, S.C. --On a sunny Wednesday afternoon at Knights Stadium, the Louisville Bats defeated the Charlotte Knights 7-4. The team leader in home runs, Jorge Toca notched his fourteenth round-tripper of the season and Joe Borchard added another. Leading the offense, Jamie Burke was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Pitching six innings in the start, Arnie Munoz (1-9) earned the loss after he allowed six runs on seven hits (two home runs) and struck out four. Louisville's starting pitcher Jeriome Robertson (3-7) earned the win, and reliever Brian Shackleford picked up his first save of the season.
Munoz retired the first batter of the game, but allowed a home run to the second Jason Romano, who was 2-for-3 with three runs scored for Louisville.
But the Knights got that run back as Toca's leadoff home run in the second inning tied the score at one.
In the top of the third, a three-run home run from Chris Denorfia reclaimed the lead for the Bats. Also scoring were Romano, who reached on a leadoff walk, and Edwin Encarnacion, who singled to left.
The Bats got two more runs in the fifth, as Romano (walk) and Encarnacion (fielder's choice) scored for a second time.
With two outs and Jamie Burke on first, Borchard's home run, his eleventh on the year, to left field tightened the score to 6-4.
Louisville added the final run in the seventh, a solo home run from Santiago Perez off reliever Matt Smith.
The Bats lead the current series 3-0 as well as the 2005 series 5-2. The final game of the home stand will be played tomorrow at 7:15 p.m. Dennis Ulacia will take the mound against Jared Fernandez for the Bats.
