Norfolk Tides News Release

NORFOLK, VA -- Norfolk Tides pitcher Juan Padilla has been selected to participate in the 18th Annual Triple-A All-Star Game.

Padilla, 28, is 3-1 with a 1.29 ERA and six saves in 28 games pitched with the Tides this year. He has held opponents to a .202 batting average against, and has struck out 47 batters while walking just five in 49.0 innings pitched.

Padilla is no stranger to being selected as an All-Star, having been selected to participate in the Eastern League All-Star Game in 2002 with Double-A New Britain, the 2001 Florida State League All-Star Game with Class-A Fort Myers, and the 2000 Midwest League All-Star Game with Class-A Quad City.

The right-hander was signed by the Mets as a minor league free agent prior to the 2005 season, and was originally selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 24th round of the 1998 draft out of Jacksonville University.

Joining Padilla on the All-Star team will be Norfolk trainer Brian Chicklo. Chicklo is in his fourth season as the head trainer for the Tides, and will be making his first-ever All-Star appearance. He resides in Winchester, VA, and earned his Masters Degree in Sports Injury Management from UNLV in 1998.

The 2005 All-Star Game pits the International League All-Stars against the Pacific Coast League All-Stars, and will take place on July 13th from Raley Field in Sacramento, California. The game will be televised live on ESPN 2, and can be heard locally on ESPN Radio 1310.
