Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - Yutaka Fukufuji turned aside 29 shots for his second shutout of the season as the Bakersfield Condors downed the Fresno Falcons 1-0 in front of a season-high 8,215 fans at the Rabobank Arena on Friday night. It was the second-largest crowd in team history and the second crowd of over 8,000 this season.
Both teams came out firing in the first period but the goaltenders were equal to the task. The 33 combined shots on goal was the second highest of the season for Bakersfield, but it remained 0-0 through 20 minutes. Twenty more Condors shots found the net during the second period but again, Jamie Hodson refused to be beaten, keeping it scoreless through two periods.
Despite the huge shot total for the Condors, the save of the period was by Yutaka Fukufuji with just under two minutes remaining. John Wroblewski broke in alone on the rookie netminder from center ice, only to be denied by Fukufuji, who stacked the pads and kicked it out.
The third period was nearly completed when the first and only goal was scored. Guy Dupuis banked a pass off the right glass, where it was picked up by Condors Captain Paul Rosebush, who raced in alone and fired home his 12th of the season with just under five minutes remaining for the victory.
The win for Bakersfield, coupled with the loss by Long Beach 5-3 in San Diego tonight, created a tie atop the West Division to be settled on Saturday when the Ice Dogs come to town. The first 2,005 fans through the gates will get a brand new shiny US Mint-issued California state quarter in a limited edition collector's case, sponsored by KGET-TV 17 and National Staffing.
