
Everblades slide past Gladiators in Shootout, 3-2

Despite jumping out to a 2-0 lead after the opening period on two goals by Kris Goodjohn, the Gladiators dropped a 3-2 shootout decision to the Florida Everblades on Saturday night in front of 7,019 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
Goodjohn posted the first goal 1:52 into the opening period as he deflected Jim Jackson's shot from the point past Florida netminder Tyler MacKay. Goodjohn chopped the puck down and redirected the shot on goal for the tally. Mike Vigilante set up Jackson at the point on the first tally to pick up an assist.
Two minutes later, Goodjohn posted his second goal of the game snapping a shot over the shoulder of MacKay off a feed from Randy Dagenais just 2:07 later. Chris Durno also picked up an assist on the goal at 3:59 of the period as he set up the play moving the puck to Dagenais at the point.
Florida cut into the Gladiators lead scoring the only goal in the middle period off the stick of Brent McDonald. Reggie Berg picked up a helper on the goal feeding McDonald in the slot for the tally at 4:49 of the second period. McDonald clanked the puck off two posts past Gladiators netminder Sean Fields and into the net for the goal.
Florida sent the game into overtime with 33 seconds left in the contest as Brent McDonald jammed the puck past Fields for the tally. Matt Hendricks and Reggie Berg added the assists on the tally moving the puck around the Gladiators zone with the Florida netminder pulled in favor of an extra attacker.
Neither team could capitalize in the overtime as Florida needed an extra round to knock off the Gladiators in the shootout as David Lundbohm scored the deciding shootout goal in the sixth round for the win.
Sean Fields dropped his first overtime decision of the season and falls to 10-6-1 on the year as the Gladiators fall to 22-14-7 on the sesaon.
The Gladiators and Everblades go at it again on Tuesday at the Arena at Gwinnett center at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available at area Ticketmaster locations and at the Arena box office.
