SAN DIEGO â The San Diego Gulls look to take sole possession of fourth place and to extend their winning streak to three when they take on Fresno Falcons tonight at the Sports Arena.
SERIES HISTORY: The Gulls and Falcons have met five times so far this season with the Gulls holding a 3-2-0 series edge. The two teams will clash three more times in the regular season. San Diego and Fresno met 10 times last season with the Gulls holding a 7-3-0 edge.

San Diego owns the all-time series match-up, posting a 73-31-6 record against its West Division rival. The Gulls are 42-11-3 all-time against the Falcons at the Sports Arena.
LAST HEAD-TO-HEAD MEETING (JAN. 8 VS. FRE): Sylvain Deschatelets scored twice, including the game-winner 3:37 into overtime, leading the Gulls to a 4-3 win over the Falcons in the back-end of a home-and-home series. Fresno grabbed a 1-0 lead 45 seconds into the first period before Deschatelets tied it early in the second period with his first goal of the game. The Falcons went back ahead 2-1, but Curtis Brown scored two straight goals to give San Diego a 3-2 cushion. The Gulls' lead was short-lived however, as Jason Weaver re-tied the game at the 8:51 mark of the third. That's how the game stayed until Deschatelets won it in overtime.
GULLS UPDATE: The Gulls (25-16-5) enter the day tied for fourth in the West Division with Fresno, three points behind of the third-place Alaska Aces... San Diego, however, has one game in hand on the Falcons... The Gulls are nine points behind the first-place Long Beach Ice Dogs and Bakersfield Condors, who both have 64 points... The Blue and Orange are 16-4-2 at home and 9-12-3 on the road this season... They've outscored their opponents 87-61 at home, but have been out-scored 76-55 on the road... The Gulls are 4-5-1 in their last 10 games... They've been out-shot 320-221 and out-scored 27-20 in their last nine games...
OTHER NOTES: Only two West Division teams have beaten the Gulls in regulation at the Sports Arena (Idaho and Alaska)... The other two teams to win in regulation on San Diego's home ice is the Peoria Rivermen and Pensacola Ice Pilots... The Gulls have the sixth ranked power play in the league (18.5 percent) and the best at home (22.9 percent)... Max Birbraer leads the club with 33 points (12g, 21a)... Brown, who notched three points last night, leads the team with 23 assists... The Gulls have six players that have scored 10+ goals (Brian Gornick â 17, Sean O'Connor â 15, Birbraer â 12, Deschatelets â 11, Guillaume Fournier â 11 and Mark Pederson â 10)... San Diego and Fresno have combined for 42 goals in five games (SDG: 24, FRE: 18)...
FRESNO UPDATE: Fresno (25-17-5) begins the day tied with the Gulls for fourth place in the West... The Falcons are unbeaten in 15 of their last 19 games (13-4-2)... After a 1-6-1 record to start the season, Fresno has gone 24-11-4 since... Goaltender Jamie Hodson made an ECHL season-high 58 saves last night in Bakersfield, but suffered a hard-luck 1-0 loss... Hodson is 16-6-1 overall with a 2.54 goals-against average and .928 save percentage... Dan Tessier leads the club with 48 points (21g, 27a), which is tied for fourth most in the ECHL... Shaun Sutter has a five-game point and assist streak against the Gulls this season. He has nine points (1g, 8a) in those five games... Tessier has eight points (5g, 3a) in five games against San Diego this season... Fresno has netted 10 short-handed goals this season, tied for third in the league...
TRANSACTIONS: NHL veteran defenseman Dave Karpa was signed today... Mike Garrow was placed on the injured list today with concussion-like symptoms... Sean Murphy was activated from the 30-day injured list yesterday... Nikita Korovkin was returned from the American Hockey League's Syracuse Crunch on Sunday... Scott Borders was placed on the seven-day injured list Feb. 5 with a quad contusion... Grady Moore was acquired Feb. 4 from the Dayton Bombers in a three-team deal with the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies... Evgueni Nourislamov and Wes Rypien all remain on the 30-day injured list...
