Moss Named Week's Best
March 10, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MA ... The American Hockey League announced today that Manitoba Moose goaltender Tyler Moss has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending March 9, 2003. Moss won all three of his starts last week, including a pair of road wins over division leaders, stopping 106 of 109 shots faced.
In Bridgeport on Wednesday night, Moss turned aside 36 of 38 shots to lead Manitoba to a 4-2 victory over the East Division-leading Sound Tigers. On Friday, Moss (29 saves) and the Moose put an end to Providence's 19-game home unbeaten streak with a resounding 5-1 win over the North Division leaders at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Finally, Moss pitched a 41-save shutout as Manitoba ended its five-game road trip with a 3-0 victory in Saint John on Saturday. Moss finished the week with a record of 3-0-0, a 1.00 goals against average and a .972 save percentage.
In recognition of his achievement, Moss will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the Sinclair Park Panthers in Moss's name.
Moss has won five starts in a row and is unbeaten in his last seven decisions (6-0-1) since Feb. 19. For the season, the Ottawa native owns a record of 15-11-4 in 31 games with the Moose, posting a 2.97 GAA, a .902 save percentage and two shutouts. Moss has also earned two recalls to Vancouver this season, appearing in one game with the Canucks. A second-round draft pick of Tampa Bay (29th overall) in 1993, Moss has a record of 64-49-23 in 146 career AHL contests. In 1997-98, he reached the Calder Cup Finals and was a co-winner of the Harry "Hap" Holmes Award for team goaltending with Saint John, sharing the honor with current Anaheim netminder Jean-Sebastien Giguere. Moss has also appeared in 30 career NHL matches with Vancouver, Carolina and Calgary.
