Morissette's hat-trick leads Amarillo to victory

Prescott Valley, AZ - Behind Jake Morissette's three-goal effort, the Amarillo Gorillas defeated the Arizona Sundogs 7-5 Saturday night.

A wild opening period included a total of seven goals. After Arizona grabbed a 2-0 lead at the 8:14 mark, Amarillo fought back with two of their own. Erik Felde's breakaway bid was stopped, but forward Jake Morissette hammered home the rebound for his 21st marker on the year. While on the power-play two minutes later, Gordon Bell slapped his shot from the far circle to tie the game at two. The Sundogs answered shortly after, but the Gorillas fired back with two more. Jake Morissette added his second of the period at the 12:19 mark, while Joe Guenther continued to lead the Gorillas in goals when he scored his 25th on a rebound shot. Amarillo 4 Arizona 3 after one period.

The Gorillas out scored the Sundogs 2-1 in the second period with contributions from Anthony Battaglia and David Nimmo. Gorillas netminder Mike Brown stopped 9 of 10 shots in the period, leading Amarillo into the second intermission with the 6-4 lead.

Despite Arizona's third period goal by Kyle Hood, Amarillo held off the Arizona attack and Jake Morissette added an empty net goal to seal the Amarillo victory 7-5.

Jake Morissette earned his first hat-trick of the season...With a goal and an assist, Anthony Battaglia has 16 points over his last 15 tilts...the Gorillas are now 14-2-1 when leading after two periods.
