March 6, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA -Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs defenseman Simon Mangos has been named one of five finalists for the Central Hockey League's Most Outstanding defenseman award, the league announced yesterday. The winner of the award will be announced near the end of the CHL regular season.
Mangos, 30, has been one of the league's elite defensemen throughout this season, ranking fourth among CHL defenders in goals (12) and points (40) and sixth in assists (28). The Cambridge, Ontario native also has a +10 rating this season and three game-winning goals. He was named Oakley CHL Player of the Week for the week of February 15 after posting nine points (three goals, six assists) and a +4 rating in four games during the previous week.
Playing in all situations for Bossier-Shreveport, Mangos ranks fifth on the team in scoring and sits only three points away from matching his career high of 43 points, set two years ago with Manchester (England). The 5-10, 203-pound blueliner is also just three goals away from his career-best total of 15.
Mangos joins four other finalists for the 2010 CHL Most Outstanding defenseman Award: Odessa's Alex Dunn, Tulsa's Derek Eastman, Colorado's Aaron Schneekloth and Rapid City's Jamie VanderVeeken. The Mudbugs have now had a player nominated for the award two years in a row after Dale Lupul was in the running for last year's honor.
