Rapid City Rush News Release
(North Richland Hills, TX) - On Saturday night, the Rapid City Rush dropped a 7-3 decision to the Texas Brahmas in the first ever meeting between the two teams. The Brahmas erupted for five second period goals to snap Rapid City's six-game winning streak. The lone bright spot for the Rush was the return of Jon Pelle who scored his 20th goal of the season.
The Rush were the first to get on the board with the second shorthanded goal of the season from Les Reaney. Brendan Cook found Reaney in neutral ice and Rapid City's leading scorer wheeled his way around the offensive zone circling around the Texas defense before squeaking a shot past Brett Jaeger. The lead would last until the 13:12 mark when a Brahmas 2-on-1 was converted by Nathan Perrott who fired a low slapshot past Danny Battochio. The first period ended in a 1-1 tie with Rapid City holding a 16-9 edge in shots.
In the second, the Brahmas would score on their first shot of the period when Justin Kinnunen collected his 6th goal of the season to give Texas their first lead of the game. Then at the 5:21 mark, the Brahmas would get a powerplay goal from Jason Deitsch for the 3-1 lead, ending Battochio's evening. The Brahmas continued the pressure, getting goals from Lee Jubinville, Kevin Seibel and Jordan Cameron to conclude the second period up 6-1.
To start the third period, the Brahmas would score their seventh straight goal, this time it was Tyler Skworchinski at the 3:17 mark. The Rush would finally stop the bleeding at the 5:24 mark when Jon Pelle scored a powerplay goal to become the 6th Rush skater to reach the mark. Rich Hansen also found the back of the net just over five minutes later to bring the game to its 7-3 final.
The Rush now head to Odessa to take on the Jackalopes on Tuesday at 6:05pm MST.
The next home games for the Rush will be on March 12th and 13th when the Allen Americans visit the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center for the first time. Tickets are still available for both games.
