Monsters Weekly Storylines
Veteran Monsters goaltender Brad Thiessen has achieved a lot in his nine-year professional career. A former Hobey Baker Award finalist during his collegiate career at Northeastern, a Calder Cup Champion with the Monsters in 2016, an NHL stint with the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the 2011-12 Aldege "Baz" Bastien Award as the AHL's top net-minder dot the resume of this Aldergrove, BC native. Heading into his third season in Cleveland, Thiessen, his wife and two young sons have become mainstays in the Northeast Ohio community and merit a profile on Thiessen's hockey journey. The AHL is full of different contract situations and acronyms - PTO's, SPC's, 1-way deals, two-way deals...what do they mean? How do they impact a player's day-to-day development and motivation, and as a coaching staff, how can you manage a group of players and personalities with such varied influences? Examining the contractual makeup of an AHL team would make for an interesting peek behind the curtain of the world's second-best hockey league.
The Cleveland Monsters are part of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena organization and also owned by a group led by Cavaliers Majority Owner and Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert. The group also owns and operates the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League playing at Quicken Loans Arena and the Canton Charge of the NBA G League playing in nearby Canton, Ohio at the Canton Civic Center.
