KIVLENIEKS DAZZLES IN 1-0 OVERTIME LOSS TO BARRACUDA
Rookie net-minder stops 21 of 22 pucks faced in tight-checking defeat at The Q.
CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Monsters, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, were defeated in overtime by the San Jose Barracuda on Sunday at The Q by a final score of 1-0. With the overtime loss, the Monsters are now 2-2-1-0 overall this season and with a .500 points percentage, currently sit tied for third place in the AHL's Central Division standings.
After the entirety of regulation slid by scoreless, Barracuda defenseman Michael Brodzinski tallied an even-strength goal at 4:58 of Cleveland's first overtime frame of the season, delivering San Jose a 1-0 victory with just 1.1 seconds remaining in the extra session.
Monsters backstop Matiss Kivlenieks fell to 0-1-1 in net this season despite an impressive 21-save performance, highlighted by numerous desperation stops, while Barracuda net-minder Antoine Bibeau logged his first shutout of the campaign, halting each of the 28 Cleveland shots he faced while improving to 1-1-0 between the pipes for San Jose this year.
Next up for the Monsters, it's a Friday clash vs. the Pacific Division's Ontario Reign with full coverage, live from The Q, underway at 7:00 pm on 99X and the Monsters Hockey Network.
