
CLEVELAND MONSTERS: Blue Jackets Recall Forwards Hannikainen,

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Monsters, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, announced Monday that Columbus recalled LW Markus Hannikainen and recalled C Jordan Schroeder from his conditioning loan.
So far this season, Hannikainen, a 6'1", 200 lb., left-handed native of Helsinki, Finland, notched a -1 rating in three appearances for the Blue Jackets and supplied 0-1-1 with a +1 rating in a pair of games played for the Monsters. In 17 career NHL appearances spanning parts of three seasons with Columbus from 2015-18, Hannikainen, 24, contributed 1-1-2 with six penalty minutes and a -3 rating. In 109 AHL appearances for the Monsters, spanning parts of three seasons from 2015-17, Hannikainen accumulated 26-32-58 with 42 penalty minutes and a +13 rating. In 2016, Hannikainen supplied 3-7-10 in 16 playoff appearances for Cleveland, helping the Monsters claim the Calder Cup as AHL Playoff Champions, and served as an assistant captain for Cleveland during the 2016-17 season.
In 117 Liiga appearances spanning parts of four seasons from 2011-15 with Jokerit, HPK, and JYP, Hannikainen tallied 22-31-53 with 67 penalty minutes and a +26 rating and represented Finland in multiple international tournaments, including the 2012 and 2013 IIHF U20 World Junior Championships and the 2017 IIHF World Championships. Hannikainen signed a two-year contract extension with the Blue Jackets on March 21, 2017.
Acquired by the Blue Jackets via trade from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for forward Dante Salituro on June 23, 2017, Schroeder signed a two-year contract with Columbus on June 27, 2017. This season, Schroeder contributed a -1 rating, two shots on goal and two penalty minutes in three appearances for Cleveland. A 5'9", 184 lb., right-handed native of Lakeville, MN, Schroeder, 27, posted 17-23-40 with 10 penalty minutes and a +9 rating in 144 NHL appearances for the Vancouver Canucks and Minnesota spanning parts of five seasons from 2012-17. In 295 AHL games played for the Manitoba Moose, Chicago Wolves, Utica Comets, Iowa Wild, and Cleveland spanning parts of eight seasons from 2010-17, Schroeder supplied 77-118-195 with 80 penalty minutes and a -10 rating.
Selected by Vancouver in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Schroeder notched 22-51-73 with 43 penalty minutes and a +10 rating in 72 NCAA appearances for the University of Minnesota spanning two seasons from 2008-10. In 2008-09, Schroeder earned WCHA Rookie of the Year honors and was named to the conference's Second All-Star Team in his first season with the Golden Gophers.
Last season, Schroder notched 6-12-18 with 12 penalty minutes and an even rating in 25 AHL appearances for Iowa and posted NHL career highs in goals, assists, points and games played for Minnesota tallying 6-7-13 with zero penalty minutes and a +5 rating in 37 appearances for the Wild. Prior to his professional career, Schroeder represented Team USA in multiple international tournaments, including the 2008, 2009, and 2010 IIHF World Junior Championships and logged time in the NAHL with USA Hockey's National Team Development Program.
