LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
@ Providence (12/8): The Manchester Monarchs allowed five goals in the third period as they fell to the Providence Bruins, 7-2, at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday night. Center Nick Shore and right wing Scott Sabourin scored for the Monarchs. Left wing Matt Fraser collected a hat trick, and defenseman David Warsofsky, left wing Craig Cunningham, center Alexander Khokhlachev, and defenseman Tommy Cross found the back of the net for the Bruins. Monarchs goaltender J.F. Berube (6-4-1) took his fourth loss of the season stopping 26-of-33 shots. Bruins netminder Niklas Svedberg (9-3-2) earned his ninth win of the season making 25 saves on 27 shots. Manchester was 0-for-1 on the power play. Providence went 2-for-3 with the man advantage.
@ Portland (12/7): The Manchester Monarchs came from being down two goals to break their two-game losing streak and beat the Portland Pirates, 4-3, in a shootout in the third VIP Cup match-up of the season at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee on Saturday night. Right wing Zach O'Brien netted two goals for the Monarchs, and defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk picked up his fourth goal of the season. O'Brien and left wing Tanner Pearson scored in the shootout. Right wing Tobias Rieder scored two goals for the Pirates, and left wing Brandon McMillan added his first tally of the season. Center Andy Miele scored the lone shootout goal for the Pirates. Monarchs goaltender J.F. Berube (7-4-1) earned his seventh win of the season stopping 22-of-25 shots. Pirates netminder Mark Visentin (6-8-2) took his second shootout loss of the season making 33 saves on 36 shots. Manchester was 0-for-4 on the power play. Portland went 0-for-2 with the man advantage.
vs. Worcester (12/8): The Manchester Monarchs ended their seven-game winning-streak with a 2-1 shootout loss to the Worcester Sharks at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester on Sunday afternoon. Right wing Zach O'Brien scored the lone goal for the Monarchs in regulation. Center Jordan Weal scored the lone goal in the shootout for the Monarchs. Defenseman Konrad Abeltshauser scored for the Sharks in regulation, and right wings Dan DeSilva and Daniil Tarasov scored in the shootout for Worcester. Monarchs goaltender J.F. Berube (7-4-2) took his second shootout loss of the season making 36 saves on 37 shots. Sharks netminder Troy Grosenick (5-2-0) earned his fifth win of the season stopping 31-of-32 shots. The Monarchs went 0-for-3 on the power play. Worcester was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
The Manchester Monarchs (16-5-1-4) are ranked first in the Atlantic Division with 37 points. The St. John's IceCaps (14-10-1-2) are in second place in the division with 31 points. The Providence Bruins (13-8-1-3) sit in second place in the division with 30 points. The Worcester Sharks (10-8-1-1) and the Portland Pirates (9-9-1-3) are tied for fourth place in the Atlantic Division with 22 points each.
The Monarchs are ranked 28th in the American Hockey League on the power play with 12 goals on 95 attempts. Manchester is ranked eighth in the league on the penalty kill stopping their opponent 98-of-116 times.
The Monarchs seven-game winning streak at home ended with Sunday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Sharks. Manchester is undefeated in their last eight games (7-0-0-1).
At home, the Monarchs are undefeated on Saturday games with a record of 5-0-0-0. Manchester is also undefeated in regulation on Saturdays with a 9-0-0-1 overall record.
On Sundays, the Monarchs have an 0-1-1-2 record.
The Monarchs were undefeated on home ice, 6-0-0-0, throughout the month of November, and collected a 9-2-0-1 overall record for the month. Thus far in December, Manchester is 1-2-0-1.
Manchester set a new season record for the fastest two goals combined as Pirates left wing Brandon McMillan and Monarchs right wing Zach O'Brien scored just 11 seconds apart on Saturday night. The fastest all-time two goals in Monarchs history were scored nine seconds apart.
The Monarchs allowed five goals in the third period and seven goals overall in Friday's game against the Bruins to tie an all-time record for goals against in a period and game.
Center Jordan Weal (4-17=21) leads the Monarchs with 17 assists and 21 points.
Weal is tied for seventh place in AHL with 17 assists. Right wing Brandon Kozun (6-14=20) ranks second on the Monarchs with 20 points.
Kozun ranks in the top 10 all-time in the following Monarchs categories:
Goals - 75 - third place
Assists - 95 - fifth place
Points - 170 - third place
Power Play Goals - 24 - third place
Game-Winning Goals - 17 - first place
Shots - 504 - 10th place
Left wing Nick Deslauriers (9-8=17) ranks third on the Monarchs with 17 points.
Deslauriers leads the Monarchs with nine goals and ranks second on the team with 41 penalty minutes.
Right wing Tyler Toffoli (7-5=12), left wing Tanner Pearson (7-5=12), and right wing Scott Sabourin (7-5=12) are tied for fourth place on the Monarchs roster with 12 points each.
Toffoli has eight goals and seven assists for 15 points in 18 games with the Los Angeles Kings. He was recalled on November 1, 2013.
Pearson recorded one point, a goal, in six games with the Kings from November 13 to December 3.
Toffoli, Pearson, and Sabourin are ranked second on the Monarchs with seven goals each.
Sabourin collected three assists and four points (1-3=4) in three games this weekend.
In his last nine games, Sabourin has collected five goals and four assists for nine points (5-4=9).
Defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk (4-7=11) and right wing Linden Vey (3-8=11) are tied for seventh place on the Monarchs with 11 points each.
Bodnarchuk leads the Monarchs with a plus-16 rating which also ranks second in the AHL.
Defenseman Vincent LoVerde (0-7=7) ranks second on the Monarchs with a plus-14 rating, which is also tied for third place in the AHL.
Vey has five assists in 13 games with the Kings since being recalled on November 1, 2013.
Goaltender Martin Jones was recalled by the Kings on November 13, 2013.
Jones made his NHL debut with the Kings against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, December 3. He backstopped the Kings to a 3-2 shootout victory, including going 9-for-9 in the shootout.
Jones picked up his first NHL shutout by stopping all 16 shots he faced in the Kings 3-0 victory on Saturday, December 7.
The rookie netminder then stopped all 31 shots he faced in the Monarchs 6-0 shutout of the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, December 10.
In four consecutive games with the Kings, Jones has an undefeated record of 4-0-0, a .974 save percentage, a 0.74 goals-against-average, and two shutouts.
Jones had a record of 9-2-2 with a 2.24 goals-against-average, a .927 save percentage and one shutout when he was recalled on Wednesday, November 13.
Jones ranks in the top 10 all-time in the following Monarchs goaltending categories:
Games played - 149 - first place
Wins - 77 - first place
Losses - 56 - first place
Ties/Shootout Losses - 9 - tied for second place
Goals-against-average - 2.45 - eighth place

Left wing Andy Andreoff (4-6=10) ranks ninth on the Monarchs with 10 points.
Andreoff leads the team with 48 penalty minutes.
O'Brien (3-2=5) scored his first two AHL goals in Saturday's 4-3 shootout win over the Pirates. O'Brien also scored in the shootout. He picked up his third goal in two games on Sunday against the Sharks.
Goaltender Jean-Francios Berube is 7-3-2 in his last 12 starts, all consecutive games since Jones' recall to the Kings.
Berube has collected a 7-4-2 record with a 2.57 goals-against-average and a .911 save percentage.
Monarchs Promotions
Teddy Bear Toss/Sing For Santa - Join the Monarchs as they celebrate the holiday season! Fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal to toss onto the ice for children in need after the Monarchs score their first goal of the game when they host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 15. Elementary school children will be singing holiday songs in the Sing For Santa concert during the second intermission and fans can get their picture taken with Santa on the concourse during the game.
