December 12, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Portland Pirates News Release
Lewiston, Maine - The Portland Pirates, AHL Affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes, announced the current totals for the inaugural Goals for Good program today. Each of the Goals for Good sponsors has an in-ice advertisement for the 2013-14 season at the Androscoggin Bank Colis̮̩e in Lewiston. For every goal scored by the Pirates from the sponsor's portion of the ice, a $100 donation will be made to a charity of the sponsor's choosing.
The current leader in donations is L.L. Bean, who has donated $900 to Healthy Hometowns, while Baxter Brewing Co. has seen 6 quick goals to increase their donation to Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice to $600. Right behind Baxter Brewing Co. is On Target, who has donated $500 to Maine Children's Cancer Program, and Electricity Maine, who has made a $300 contribution to New Beginnings. The total amount donated to the four charities through 11 Pirates home games is $2300.
The amount each charity will receive will be tracked online on the Pirates website throughout the season at portlandpirates.com/community/goalsforgood as well as announced during every Pirates home game.
The Pirates play at home next on Saturday Night when they face the Worcester Sharks. It is Teddy Bear Toss and First Responders Night, presented by Central Maine Medical Center, and the puck will drop at 7 PM. Bring a teddy bear to the game and when the Pirates score their first goal, throw it on the ice! All the teddy bears will be donated to Lewiston/Auburn First Responders for use in crisis situations. Pirates fans who bring a canned or non-perishable food item to the game will receive a pair of tickets to an upcoming January Pirates game. Tickets are available by calling the Colisee Box Office on Friday at (207) 283-2009 ext. 525 and online at thecolisee.com.
