LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
vs. Providence (12/26): The Manchester Monarchs started right where they left off for their holiday break with a 4-1 victory over the Providence Bruins at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Monday night. The Monarchs received goals from center Robbie Czarnik, right wing Justin Johnson, right wing Linden Vey and right wing J.D. Watt. Center Josh Hennessy scored the lone goal for the Bruins. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones earned his 10th victory of the season stopping 30-of-31 shots. Bruins netminder Anton Khudobin (10-12-2) took his 12th loss of the season making 23 saves on 27 shots. Manchester went 1-for-4 on the power play. Providence was 0-for-8 with the man advantage.
@ Worcester (12/28): The Manchester Monarchs dropped their first of two road games this week to the Worcester Sharks, 3-1, at the DCU Center on Wednesday night. Left wing Dwight King scored the lone goal for the Monarchs. Worcester tallied goals from forward Curt Gogol, forward Nathan Moon and defenseman Matt Pelech. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (9-4-1) took his fourth loss of the season stopping 32-of-35 shots. Sharks netminder Harri Sateri (6-4-0) earned his sixth victory of the season making 22 saves on 23 shots. Manchester went 0-for-2 on the power play. Worcester was 0-for-1 with the man advantage.
@ Albany (12/30): The Manchester Monarchs jumped out to an early lead and was able to hold on to defeat the Albany Devils, 5-4 in overtime, at the Time Union Center on Friday night. The Monarchs scored goals from center Marc-Andre Cliche, center Robbie Czarnik, defenseman Thomas Hickey, right wing Stefan Legein and right wing Linden Vey. The Devils received goals from defenseman Brandon Burlon, center Steve Zalewski and left wing Vladimir Zharkov (2). Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (11-8-1) earned his 11th victory of the season stopping 28-of-32 shots. Devils netminder Keith Kinkaid (8-9-0) took his ninth loss of the season making 15 saves on 20 shots. Manchester went 2-for-6 on the power play. Albany was 0-for-3 with the man advantage.
vs. Providence (12/31): The Manchester Monarchs finished 2011 with a 2-1 win over the Providence Bruins at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Center Marc-Andre Cliche and left wing Dwight King scored for the Monarchs. The Bruins lone goal was scored by defenseman Colby Cohen. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (10-4-1) earned his 10th victory of the season stopping 25-of-26 shots. Bruins netminder Anton Khudobin (11-13-2) took his 13th loss of the season making 27 saves on 29 shots. Manchester went 0-for-1 on the power play. Providence was 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
The Manchester Monarchs (21-12-0-2) are in first place in the Atlantic Division with 44 points. The St. John's IceCaps (19-8-4-1) sit in second place in the division with 43 points. The Worcester Sharks (16-9-3-3) are in third place in the division with 38 points. The Portland Pirates (15-12-2-3) sit in fourth place in the division with 35 points. The Providence Bruins (14-18-1-2) are in fifth place in the division with 31 points.

At the Verizon Wireless Arena this season, Manchester owns a 12-5-0-1 record.
With a 4-2 loss on Friday, December 16, the IceCaps snapped Manchester's eight-game winning-streak at the Verizon Wireless Arena. All eight victories were decided by one goal.
The eight-game winning-streak was just two victories shy of the franchise's home longest winning-streak (10) set during the 2004-05 season.
Manchester has won their last three games at home since having an eight-game home winning-streak snapped.
Manchester has not lost back-to-back games in regulation since October 22-26.
Nine of the last 18 Monarchs games have gone into overtime or a shootout. Manchester is 13-4-0-1 in their last 18 games.
This season, the Monarchs are 14-3-0-2 in games that have been decided by one goal.

Cliche's three game-winning goals are tied with right wing Linden Vey (9-8=17) for most on the team and they are both tied for 10th place in the AHL.
Cliche ranks second on the team with a plus-10 rating.
Going a perfect 6-for-6 in the shootout, Cliche ranks first on the team and in the AHL.
Vey has three goals in his last five games, including two game-winning goals.
Vey scored 1:15 into overtime to give the Monarchs a 5-4 win against the Albany Devils on Friday night.
Left wing Dwight King (6-14=20) is second on the team with 20 points and tied for the team lead with defenseman Parick Mullen
(5-14=19) with 14 assists each.
King tallied at least one point (5-7=12) in 11 of 13 games in December.
King had a seven-game point-streak (2-5=7) snapped on Friday, December 16.
The left wing had a three-game assist-streak (three assists) snapped in a 2-1 win on Wednesday, December 14.
With two assists on Friday night and two assists on Saturday night, Mullen recorded his third and fourth multiple point games of the season.
Mullen had a five-game point-streak (3-3=6) snapped on Sunday, December 18 and had a three-game goal-streak (three tallies) end on Friday, December 16.
Mullen leads Monarchs defensemen with five goals, 14 assists and 19 points this season.
Right wing Brandon Kozun (8-10=18) is fourth on the team with 18 points.
Kozun is third on the team with eight goals scored this season and has recorded at least one point (4-9=13) in 12 of his last 15 games.
Kozun had a five-game point-streak (1-5=6) snapped on Monday, December 26.
Kozun's three power play goals lead the team.
Right wing Jordan Nolan (6-8=14) is tied for sixth on the Monarchs with center Andrei Loktionov (3-11=14) with 14 points each.
Nolan's 95 penalty minutes lead the Monarchs and is tied for seventh place in the league.
Loktionov was recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on Monday, November 14 and has recorded four points (0-4=4) and two penalty minutes in 18 games this season.
In 38 career games with the Kings, Loktionov has 11 points (4-7=11) and four penalty minutes.
Center Justin Azevedo (5-8=13) and defenseman David Kolomatis (4-9=13) are tied for eighth place on the Monarchs.
Defenseman Thomas Hickey (1-10=11) leads the Monarchs with a plus/minus rating of plus-15. His plus/minus rating is also tied for sixth in the AHL.
Left wing Richard Clune (4-4=8) ranks third on the team and is tied for 13th in the AHL with 86 penalty minutes.
Clune changed to No. 13 with the addition of left wing Ethan Moreau (0-0=0) who will now don No. 17.
Defenseman Slava Voynov (2-1=3) was recalled to the Kings on November 15. In 24 games with Los Angeles this season, Voynov has 10 points (4-6=10) and six penalty minutes.
Right wing Justin Johnson (1-1=2) is second on the team and is tied for 10th in the AHL with 92 penalty minutes.
Johnson tallied his first goal of the season on Monday, December 26 and came just 40 seconds into the game. The goal was the fastest opening goal by a Monarchs player this season.
Goaltender Martin Jones owns a 11-8-1 record, a 2.53 goals-against-average and a .920 save percentage in 20 games for the Monarchs this season.
Monarchs netminder Jeff Zatkoff has registered a record of 10-4-1, a 2.04 goals-against-average and a .935 save percentage in 17 games.
Zatkoff's 2.04 goals-against-average ranks third in the AHL and his .935 save percentage is second best in the league.
Zatkoff's 3-1 shootout record ranks sixth in the AHL.

Pink In The Rink - The Monarchs Care Foundation and the Catholic Medical Center are once again teaming up to raise awareness and money in the fight against breast Cancer. Join the Monarchs when they host the Connecticut Whale at 7:00 p.m. on February 11 to support the cause. The night will feature pink ice and specialty pink jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game's conclusion.
