LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

@ Providence (12/9): The Manchester Monarchs fell to the Providence Bruins, 2-1 in a shootout, as center Trent Whitfield tied the game in the third period and scored the shootout winner at the Dunkin Donuts Center on Friday night. Right wing Brandon Kozun tallied the lone goal in regulation for the Monarchs and center Marc-Andre Cliche registered the only goal in the shootout. Center Jamie Arniel joined Whitfield on the scoreboard in the shootout for the Bruins. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (8-7-1) took his first shootout loss of the season stopping 30-of-31 shots in regulation and 3-of-5 shootout attempts. Bruins netminder Michael Hutchinson (1-4-0) earned his first victory of the season making 26 saves on 27 shots in regulation and stopped 4-of-5 shootout snipers. Manchester went 0-for-2 on the power play. Providence was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

@ Springfield (12/10): Rookie right wing Rob Mignardi's first professional goal stood tall as the game-winning tally as the Manchester Monarchs narrowly edged the Springfield Falcons, 3-2, at the MassMutual Center on Saturday night. Left wing Richard Clune, right wing Rob Mignardi and defenseman Patrick Mullen lit the lamp for the Monarchs. The Falcons picked up tallies from right wing Cam Atkinson and center Martin St. Pierre. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (7-3-1) earned his seventh victory of the season stopping 33-of-35 shots. Falcons netminder Manny Legace (4-7-0) took his seventh loss of the season making 20 saves on 23 shots. Manchester went 0-for-3 on the power play. Springfield was 1-for-4 with the man advantage.

vs. Portland (12/11): The Manchester Monarchs put forth a complete team effort as they were able to overcome a two-goal deficit to beat the Portland Pirates, 5-4 in a shootout, for their eighth consecutive victory at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday afternoon. Defenseman Patrick Mullen, center Robbie Czarnik and right wing Stefan Legein (two) scored in regulation for the Monarchs. Czarnik and center Marc-Andre Cliche scored in the shootout. Right wing Brett MacLean (two), center Brock Trotter and defenseman Nathan Oystrick tallied in regulation. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (9-7-1) earned his ninth victory of the season stopping 24-of-28 shots in regulation and all four shots in the shootout. Pirates netminder Justin Pogge (3-2-2) took his second shootout loss of the season making 31 saves on 35 shots during regulation and 2-of-4 shots in the shootout. Manchester went 0-for-3 on the power play. Portland was 1-for-5 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (16-10-0-2) are tied with the St. John's IceCaps (15-7-4-0) for first place in the Atlantic Division with 34 points. The Portland Pirates (12-10-1-2) are in third place in the division with 27 points. The Worcester Sharks (10-6-3-3) rank fourth in the division with 26 points. The Providence Bruins (10-15-1-2) are in fifth place in the division with 23 points.

At the Verizon Wireless Arena this season, Manchester owns a 9-4-0-1 record.

Manchester is currently on an eight-game winning-streak at the Verizon Wireless Arena. All eight games have been decided by one goal. Eight of the last 11 Monarchs games have gone into overtime or a shootout. Manchester is 9-1-0-1 in their last 11 games.

The Monarchs are currently undefeated in regulation in their last five games (4-0-0-1).

This season, the Monarchs are 12-3-0-2 in games that have been decided by one goal.

Manchester is 11-5-0-2 against Atlantic Division teams this season.

The Monarchs are undefeated in regulation, 7-0-0-2, in games when they have led after the first period and are 7-2-0-0 when tied after the second period.

When scoring first this season, the Monarchs are 10-2-0-2.

Right wing Jordan Nolan (6-8=14) is tied for second on the Monarchs with center Andrei Loktionov (3-11=14) and left wing Dwight King (2-12=14) with 14 points each. Nolan's 95 penalty minutes lead the Monarchs and is tied for fourth place in the league.

Loktionov was recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on Monday, November 14 and has recorded two points (0-2=2) and two penalty minutes in 12 games this season.

In 32 career games with the Kings, Loktionov has nine points (4-5=9) and four penalty minutes.

King leads the Monarchs with 12 assists this season. King is currently on a six-game point-streak (1-5=6) and a three-game assist-streak (three assists).

King tallied his 100th professional point with an assist on defenseman Patrick Mullen's (4-9=13) second period goal in a 3-2 win over the Springfield Falcons on Saturday night.

Mullen is tied with right wing Linden Vey (6-7=13), center Justin Azevedo (5-8=13) and defenseman David Kolomatis (4-9=13) for fifth place on the Monarchs.

Mullen has recorded four points (2-2=4) in his last three games.

Mullen and Kolomatis are tied for the team lead amongst defensemen with four goals each this season.

Monarchs right wing Brandon Kozun (7-5=12) is ranked ninth on the Monarchs roster in points and second in goals scored with seven tallies.

Kozun had his six-game point-streak (3-3=6) snapped in a 3-2 win against the Falcons on Saturday night.

Kozun's three power play goals lead the team.

Left wing Richard Clune ranks second on the team and sixth in the AHL with 86 penalty minutes.

Defenseman Thomas Hickey leads the Monarchs with a plus/minus rating of plus-12. His plus/minus rating is also tied for seventh in the AHL.

Defenesman Slava Voynov (2-1=3) was recalled to the Kings on November 15. In 17 games with Los Angeles this season, Voynov has seven points (4-3=7), two penalty minutes and a plus-3.

Goaltender Martin Jones owns an 9-7-1 record, a 2.50 goals-against-average and a .921 save percentage on the season for the Monarchs.

Monarchs netminder Jeff Zatkoff has registered a 2.22 goals-against-average, a record of 7-3-1 and a .930 save percentage.

Zatkoff's 2.22 goals-against-average ranks eighth in the AHL and his .930 save percentage is tied for fourth place in the league with former Monarchs goaltender Danny Taylor who now plays for the Abbotsford Heat.

Zatkoff's 3-1 shootout record ranks third in the AHL.

MONARCHS PROMOTIONS

New Year's Eve Celebration - The Monarchs will be ringing in the New Year with New England's largest indoor fireworks display when they take on the Providence Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 31.
