Abbotsford Heat News Release

The Abbotsford Heat is riding a five game winning streak fol- lowing a weekend series sweep of the Lake Erie Monsters (Colo- rado Avalanche).

Friday's 2-0 victory saw recent- ly added net-minder Danny Tay- lor earn his first shutout in his home debut.

During Saturday's 3-1 win it was Roman Horak's turn in the spot- light with a superb performance in his second AHL game after being assigned by the Calgary Flames. The 20-year old Czech forward played alongside for- mer line mate Ryan Howse and Paul Byron and the trio were great, supplying numerous scor- ing chances on the night. Heat Captain Quintin Laing provided some prospective of Horak say- ing "Roman is a really great play- er, he won't be here long. He be- longs in the NHL." Nostadamus he is not but Laing's words rang true as Horak was summoned to Calgary the next morning.

The Abbotsford Heat will be hosting the team's third annual teddy bear toss on Sunday, December 18th in the clos- ing game of a weekend series against the Hamilton Bulldogs (Montreal Cana- diens).

Fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal to the game to throw on the ice after the Heat's first goal, as all toys and funds collected will be donated to local charities. This initiative has proven to be highly successful over the past two seasons, as the Heat has raised over $3,200 as well as three truckloads worth of toys for community charitable organizations.

Coming off a sweep of the sea- son series with the Lake Erie Monsters, the Heat is in a simi- lar position with the Hamilton Bulldogs this weekend as they've beaten the Montreal Canadiens farm team twice already this sea- son in Ontario, and can sweep the season series with a pair of home wins.

Sunday October 30th saw the Heat defeat the Bulldogs 6-2, and two days later Abbotsford won again 3-2 in Overtime with Joe Piskula playing OT Hero, as he potted the winner.

Krys Kolanos leads the way of- fensively against Hamilton as he recorded a goal and three assists in the two wins. Greg Nemisz also had a goal and two assists in his home province of Ontario.

Danny Taylor wasted no time making an impression on Heat fans, as the newly acquired netminder made 38 saves in a 2-0 shutout win in his home debut against the Lake Erie Monsters on Friday night. He also chipped in with an assist on Krys Kolanos' goal which turned out to be the game winner.

It was more of the same from Plymouth, England's netminding bloke on Saturday as Taylor faced 25 shots, stopping all but one in a 3-1 Heat triumph. The home victories were Taylor's second and third as a member of the Heat after being signed to an AHL Standard Player's contract by the club on December 2nd. In his first appearance, Taylor posted 25 saves in a 3-1 victory in Chicago against the Wolves (Vancou- ver Canucks) on December 4th.

Since joining Abbotsford, Taylor has stopped 87 of the 89 total shots he's faced for a sparkling save per- centage of .978% as a member of the Heat.
