Checkers Recall Shugg from Florida

CHARLOTTE, NC - Charlotte Checkers general manager and head coach Jeff Daniels announced today the team has recalled rookie forward Justin Shugg from its ECHL affiliate, the Florida Everblades.

It is the second recall of the season for Shugg, 19, who has one goal and two assists in 12 games with the Checkers this season. He was most recently assigned to Florida, where he recorded three points (1g, 2a) in two games.

The Niagara Falls, Ontario native has 11 points (4g, 7a) in seven ECHL games with Florida this season and was named ECHL Player of the Week Oct. 25 after recording six points (3g, 3a) in three games.

Shugg was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fourth round (105th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft and was signed to a three-year entry-level contract on June 16, 2011.

The Checkers open a four-game homestand Thursday against Chicago at 7 p.m. at Time Warner Cable Arena. Tickets are available at the Time Warner Cable Arena box office and www.ticketmaster.com.
