LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
vs. Springfield (10/26): The Manchester Monarchs dropped their fifth consecutive game, a 2-1 loss at the hands of their former goaltender Danny Taylor as the Springfield Falcons earned their first win at the Verizon Wireless Arena in six games on Wednesday night. Right wing Jordan Nolan was the lone goal scorer for the Monarchs. Center Martin St. Pierre and left wing Raymond Macias tallied the Falcons goals. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones took the loss making 21 saves on 23 shots. Taylor earned the victory stopping 32-of-33 shots. The Monarchs went 0-for-4 on the power play. Springfield went 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
@ Portland (10/28): The Manchester Monarchs snapped their five-game losing streak behind three third period goals in a 5-2 victory against the Portland Pirates at the Cumberland County Civic Arena on Friday night. The goal scorers for the Monarchs were center Marc-Andre Cliche, left wing Richard Clune, left wing Dwight King, right wing Linden Vey and defenseman Jordan Hill. Scoring the goals for the Pirates were right wing Ryan Duncan and right wing Ashton Rome. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff earned his first win of the season making 27 saves on 29 shots. Pirates netminder Curtis McElhinney took the loss stopping 21-of-25 shots. The Monarchs were 1-for-3 on the power play. Portland went 1-for-6 with the man advantage.
vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (10/29): The Manchester Monarchs came up short against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 4-1, on Canadian Heritage Night at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Right wing Brandon Kozun scored the lone goal for the Monarchs. Right wing Nick Peterson, forward Brian Gibbons, forward Eric Tangradi and right wing Niko Dimitrakos all tallied goals for the Penguins. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones took the loss stopping 14-of-17 shots. Netminder Jeff Zatkoff relieved Jones in the second period and tallied 17 saves on 18 shots. Penguins netminder Brad Thiessen picked up the victory stopping 17-of-18 shots. Manchester went 1-for-2 on the power play. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton went 2-for-4 with the man advantage.
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
The Manchester Monarchs (4-7-0-0) are in fourth place in the Atlantic Division with eight points. The St. John's IceCaps (5-2-3-0) sit in first place in division with 13 points. The Providence Bruins (5-5-1-0) are in second place in the division with 11 points. The Worcester Sharks (4-0-0-2) rank third in the division with 10 points. The Portland Pirates (3-5-0-1) sit in fifth place in the division with seven points.
The Monarchs went 1-2-0-0 for the week of October 24-30.
Monarchs snapped their franchise record five-game losing streak, with a 5-2 win against the Pirates on Friday night at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Monarchs center Andrei Loktionov (3-9=12) leads the team in both assists (9) and points (12).
Loktionov's nine assists are tied for fourth best in the league.
Loktionov, center Marc-Andre Cliche (5-2=7) and defenseman Slava Voynov (1-1=2) are tied for the team lead the team in plus/minus ratio with a plus-5.
Cliche collected his team-leading fifth goal of the season and scored the eventual game-winning goal in the third period against the Pirates on Friday night.
Monarchs center Justin Azevedo (3-3=6) tallied two assists Friday night moving him into 10th place on the Monarchs all-time point list with 122 career points (47-75=122).
Monarchs left wing Richard Clune (3-2=5) is second in the league with 50 penalty minutes this season.
Left wing David Meckler (3-2=5) is ninth on the Monarchs all-time list with 123 career points (67-56=123).
Monarchs left wing Dwight King (1-2=3) scored his first goal of the season in Friday's win over the Pirates.
Monarchs defenseman Jordan Hill's (1-0=1) empty net goal against the Pirates on Friday marked his first goal of the season. Hill's goal is the second AHL goal of his career.
Monarchs center Robbie Czarnik (0-1=1) made his professional debut with the Monarchs against the Pirates on Friday.
Czarnik tallied his first AHL point, an assist, on King's first period goal on Friday night.
Defenseman Jake Muzzin (3-3=6) leads Monarchs defensemen with three goals on the season.
Muzzin's three goals this season tie him for the league lead amongst defenseman.
Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (3-5-0-0) is currently on a four-game losing streak; the franchise record for a goaltender's losing streak is six games.
Monarchs netminder Jeff Zatkoff (1-2-0-0) earned his first victory of the season in a 5-2 victory against the Pirates on Friday night.
Zatkoff became the second Monarchs goaltender to record an assist this season after tallying an assist on Clune's third period goal against Portland on Friday night.

Teaming Up For Warmth Coat Drive - On Saturday, November 5, 2011, the Monarchs will be collecting unwanted coats from fans and donating them to families in need when the Monarchs host the Providence Bruins at the Verizon Wireless Arena at 7:00 p.m.
Mullets in Movember - The Monarchs have partnered up with the Norris Cotton Cancer Center and the Movember Foundation to bring back Mullet Night to the Verizon Wireless Arena as we raise awareness of the fight against men's cancers. Mullets in Movember will take place on Saturday, November 19, 2011 when the team hosts the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
