Hershey Bears News Release

The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club began last weekend with a visit to the Springfield Falcons. Charging out to a 3-0 lead halfway through the game, the BEARS hit penalty trouble and allowed three power-play goals. Ryan Russell then provided the overtime heroics and stole a 4-3 win from the BEARS. Rookie Garrett Mitchell notched his first AHL goal in the loss. On Saturday, the BEARS and Adirondack Phantoms faced off in Glens Falls, a game which turned out to be a display of dueling goaltenders. Dany Sabourin was outstanding, until sniper Denis Hamel found the back of the BEARS' net with a shot from the goal line early in the third period. Dmitry Orlov would break up Michael Leighton's shutout bid with 38 seconds left in regulation, but the Phantoms went on to take a 2-1 victory. The team wrapped up the weekend with a tilt against the Binghamton Senators on Sunday, and saw a short-lived dormant power play spring back to life as Graham Mink and Jacob Micflikier each tallied on the man advantage en route to a 3-2 victory, helped out by Braden Holtby's 19 saves. The BEARS have a light work week with only a Friday contest at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on the early November schedule.

Flicking in the Points

Jacob Micflikier has produced three multiple-point efforts in his first ten games in the Chocolate and White, and he registered three points (1G, 2A) in all of them - including factoring into all of the scoring and earning number one star honors in Sunday's 3-2 win over Binghamton.

Helping Himself to the Top

Keith Aucoin assisted on both of HERSHEY's power play goals on Sunday, pushing his assist total (13) to the top of the AHL. His 16 points also rank tied for the top spot in the league. Aucoin found the scoresheet in all three games this weekend (five assists), and in every game this season except one (10/22 vs. WBS).

Stellar Sabourin:

Dany Sabourin's loss on Saturday at Adirondack halted a long winning streak for the netminder. He strung together nine straight wins beginning with a January 7 victory at Manitoba. Sabourin's last loss was on New Year's Eve 2010, when the Syracuse Crunch defeated the BEARS 4-2. He is now 14-3-0 in his last 17 appearances.

High Voltage

After depositing 13 power play goals into opponents' nets over six straight games, the BEARS suddenly went two consecutive contests this weekend without scoring on the man advantage. But the power play was re-ignited Sunday, when HERSHEY went 2-for-6 and moved up to third place in the AHL in power-play success (15-for-49, 30.6%). The BEARS also rank second in the AHL in home-ice power play success (9-for-26, 34.6%).

Fast Starts

HERSHEY has scored 14 first-period goals in the first ten games of the season, a mark which leads the AHL.
