GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Monday recalled left wing Gustav Nyquist from the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Nyquist, 22, is currently in a fifth-place tie in AHL rookie scoring with nine points (4-5 - 9) through his first nine games. The Halmstad, Sweden, native recorded points in each of the Griffins' first four games this season, totaling three goals and two assists along the way.
Nyquist, who ranks second in team scoring, recorded four points (1-3 - 4) during an eight-game tryout with the Griffins last season after finishing his collegiate career with the University of Maine. He led the Black Bears in scoring during each of his three seasons there, while earning a nomination for the Hobey Baker Award in the final two.
Nyquist is expected to make his NHL debut on Tuesday when the Red Wings host the Minnesota Wild at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Detroit.
The Griffins will be in action again on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when the Lake Erie Monsters visit Van Andel Arena. Tickets are available at griffinshockey.com.
