Oklahoma City Barons News Release
The Oklahoma City Barons continued their solid play, notching two wins in their three games last weekend.
The team will depart Wednesday morning for their two-game set in Abbotsford, B.C. this Thursday and Saturday. Faceoff for both games is 9 p.m. (ct).
* THE WEEK PAST: The Barons bring a 2-game winning streak into this week, having beaten Houston 5-4 in a shootout at the Toyota Center on Saturday and prevailing at San Antonio 4-1 on Sunday. The 3 games in 3 days stretch began at the Cox Center on Friday with a 2-1 loss to Charlotte on a last-minute goal in the first meeting between the franchises, both in their second seasons in the AHL.
* THE WEEK AHEAD: Both of this week's games are in Abbotsford, B.C., against the Heat, top affiliate of the Calgary Flames. The Barons take on the Heat Thursday and Saturday at 9 pm CDT before returning home for their first 4-game week of the season, Nov. 8-13.
* NO SOPHOMORE JINX: Second-year left winger Philippe Cornet tops the team with 7 goals and has matched his total from last season, when he had 7 in 60 games. Cornet has a goal in consecutive games and has done all his scoring in 8 games, one fewer than the team has played. While shootout goals do not add to a player's official total, Cornet is 2-for-2 in that department this season to lead the team in shootout tallies.
* CATCH ME IF YOU CAN: The Barons have scored first in 6 of 9 games, winning all 6 where they notched the first goal. The have not lost this season when leading at an intermission, going 6-0-0-0 when leading after one period and 5-0-0-0 when in front after two.
* NO SEE-SAW GAMES: The Barons had a 4-game stretch from Oct. 14-21 where they never trailed, a span of 275:45 that reached close to 14 full periods. Following that run, which ended Oct. 22 against Grand Rapids, OKC went on a string of 6 consecutive periods without having a lead during the Oct. 22 and 28 games. The Barons ended the week on a no-deficit stretch, going their last 6 periods without trailing, as they had a lead or tie throughout Saturday's game at Houston and Sunday at San Antonio.
* PK UPDATE: The Barons are 38-for-43 (88.4 percent) on the penalty kill in their last 8 games, during which they've gone 6-1-0-1.
* DAZZLING DANIS: Yann Danis has won 4 of his last 5 starts. He stopped all 4 shootout attempts on Saturday in his first shootout of the season at Houston in a 5-4 win. In his last 5 games, Danis is 4-1-0-0 with a 1.58 GAA and .945 save percentage. He recorded the team's lone shutout of the season on Oct. 16 by stopping all 28 shots against Houston in a 2-0 win.
* BARONS WEEKLY: Barons head coach Todd Nelson and center Ryan O'Marra will be the guests on this week's "Barons Weekly" radio show tonight (Oct. 31) at Buffalo Wild Wings on Northwest Expressway in Oklahoma City. The show airs live each Monday from 6-7 p.m. on AM 1340 The Game and is repeated on Thursday at 2 pm.
