LAST WEEK ‚¬â„¢S HIGHLIGHTS

At Providence (1/21): Four different players recorded two points apiece to set the pace for the Providence Bruins as they defeated the Manchester Monarchs by a 5-2 score Friday evening at the Dunkin ‚¬â„¢ Donuts Center. Left wings Dwight King and Bud Holloway picked up goals for the Monarchs. Right wing Lane MacDermid, center Jordan Caron, center Maxime Sauve, left wing Jeremy Reich and center Joe Colborne scored for the Bruins. Goaltender Martin Jones (16-4-0) drew his fourth loss of the season, stopping 25-of-30 shots on goal. Goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (10-11-2) relieved Jones with 8:03 remaining in the third period, closing out the game by stopping all three shots on goal he faced. Bruins netminder Matt Dalton (6-3-0) collected his sixth victory of the season, halting 26-of-28 shots on net. Manchester went 2-for-6 on the power play. Providence was 1-for-4 with the man advantage.

Vs. Binghamton (1/22): Right wing Roman Wick tallied a hat trick as the Binghamton Senators came away with the 4-2 win over the Manchester Monarchs on Saturday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The Monarchs recorded their first sellout of the season with 9,852 fans in attendance on Pink In The Rink night where they raised funds and awareness for Breast Cancer research and treatment. Left wing Richard Clune and center Marc-Andre Cliche scored for Manchester. Right wing Ryan Keller joined Wick on the scoring board for the Senators. Goaltender Martin Jones (16-5-0) dropped his fifth loss of the season stopping 13-of-17 shots on goal. Senators goaltender Barry Brust (16-12-1) stopped 38-of-40 shots on net, earning his 16th decision of the season. Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Binghamton was 2-for-6 with the man advantage.

At Providence (1/23): The Manchester Monarchs picked up one point in the standings but dropped to second place in the Atlantic Division as they fell to the Providence Bruins, 2-1, in a shootout at the Dunkin ‚¬â„¢ Donuts Center on Sunday evening. Right wing Brandon Kozun scored the lone goal for the Monarchs in regulation. Monarchs centers Oscar Moller and Justin Azevedo scored in the shootout. Center Joe Colborne scored for the Bruins in regulation and centers Zach Hamill, Maxime Sauve and Trent Whitfield tallied in the shootout. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (10-11-3) dropped his third shootout loss of the season stopping 34-of-35 shots in regulation and overtime as well as 3-of-6 in the shootout. Providence netminder Nolan Schaefer (7-12-1) stopped 41-of-42 shots on net through 65 minutes of play and 4-of-6 in the shootout, earning his seventh decision of the season. Manchester went 1-for-8 on the power play. Providence was 1-for-9 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (27-16-1-3, 58 points) dropped from first place to second place in the Atlantic Division for the first time since taking the lead on November 26 as the Portland Pirates (27-13-4-1, 59 points) have one more point in the standings after winning a shootout against the Worcester Sharks (20-18-2-6, 48 points) on Sunday. The Connecticut Whale (22-17-2-5, 51 points) are in third place in the division, trailing Portland by eight points. The Sharks are in fourth place in the Division followed by the Providence Bruins (20-20-3-1, 44 points), the Springfield Falcons (20-21-1-3, 44 points) and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (19-20-3-3, 44 points) who are all tied for fifth place in the Atlantic Division with 44 points.

Manchester ‚¬â„¢s power play is ranked 13th in the AHL as they have scored 39 goals on 221 opportunities for a 17.6% conversion rate. On the penalty kill, the Monarchs are ranked ninth in the league as they have given up 34 goals when they have been down a man. They have been shorthanded 217 times this season and have an 84.3% penalty kill rating.

Left wing Bud Holloway recorded his team-leading 14th goal of the season in Friday ‚¬â„¢s 5-2 loss to the Bruins. He has 33 points (14-19=33) in 46 games to lead Manchester this season.

Defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov (9-23=32) is second on the Monarchs in points with 32.

Voynov is one point behind Chicago defenseman Paul Postma (8-25=33) among AHL defensemen with 32 points.

Center Andrei Loktionov (8-23=31), recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday, is tied with Voynov for the team lead in assists with 23. Loktionov is also ranked third overall on the Monarchs squad in points with 31.

Loktionov leads the team in the plus/minus category with a plus-15.

Loktionov has two points (1-1=2) and two penalty minutes in nine games with the Kings.

Center Oscar Moller (9-19=28) sits in fourth place on the Monarchs with 28 points.

Moller tied a franchise record when he recorded five points (1-4=5) in the Monarchs 7-3 win over the Bruins on December 31. He is only the second player in team history to record five points in a game. The other is center Jared Aulin who picked up five assists against Saint John in the Monarchs 7-4 win on December 21, 2002.

Moller is also in the midst of a 10-game point streak on home ice, recording a total of 19 points (8-11=19), eight goals and 11 assists, starting on November 14th.

Left wing Dwight King (12-15=27) is tied with center Justin Azevedo (12-15=27) for fifth place on the Monarchs in points with 27.

With a goal on Friday night against Providence, King has recorded eight points (4-4=8) in his last eight games.

Azevedo is also tied for sixth place in the AHL in game-winning goals with four.

Center Corey Elkins (12-14=26) has 26 points this season, placing him in seventh place on the Monarchs in points.

Center Marc-Andre Cliche (12-11=23) collected six points (4-3=7) in his last seven games, giving him 23 points on the season.

Right wing Brandon Kozun is ninth on the Monarchs in scoring with 22 points (9-12=22).

Kozun is also tied for 16th place among rookie scorers in the AHL.

Left wing David Meckler (13-8=21) is second on the Monarchs with 13 goals scored this season. Overall, Meckler is 10th on the Monarchs in scoring with 21 points (13-8=21).

Left wing Richard Clune ‚¬â„¢s 158 penalty minutes places him in a tie for fifth overall in the league in the same category. Right wing Justin Johnson is ranked 20th in the AHL with 108 penalty minutes.

Goaltender Jeff Zatkoff has a record of 10-11-3 with a 3.18 goals-against-average and a .897 save percentage in 26 games this season.

Netminder Martin Jones has played in 24 games with the Monarchs and has collected a record of 16-5-0 with a 2.17 goals-against-average and a .930 save percentage.

2011 AHL All-Star Game - Defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov and goaltender Martin Jones will play in the AHL ‚¬â„¢s 75th anniversary All-Star Game at the 2011 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Capital BlueCross at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania on January 31 at 7:00 p.m.
