Surging Bears Head Into All-Star Break This Week

The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey club, winners of 10 of its last 14 games, will play three games this week that will lead the club up to the All-Star Break. The 2011 AHL All-Star Classic, presented by Capital BlueCross, begins this Sunday with the annual skills competition at 3:00 p.m., followed by the All-Star Game Monday night at 7:00 p.m.

Springfield makes its only appearance of 2010-11 at Giant Center Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m., with the Charlotte Checkers in on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. HERSHEY will travel to Binghamton Friday night at 7:05 p.m. in between. Tickets are on sale now at the Giant Center box office, or by calling (717) 534- 3911.

Gordon hits the 20 plateau: Right wing Andrew Gordon notched his 20th goal of the season Sunday night against Adirondack. Gordon, an AHL All-Star playing for the Eastern Conference this weekend, is seventh in the league in goals.

Sabourin shines: Goaltender Dany Sabourin won three games in three days this past weekend at Giant Center, defeating Albany, Rochester and Adirondack. Sabourin leads the team in wins with 13.

Holtby remains on recall: Goaltender Braden Holtby remains on recall to the Washington Capitals. Holtby, recalled last week, is 2-0-0 with wins over the New York Islanders and Toronto Maple Leafs since last Thursday. He ‚¬â„¢s 4-2-1 with a 2.79 goals against average for the Capitals this season.

Souray returns to lineup: Defenseman Sheldon Souray, sidelined since December 18 with a lower body injury, returned to the HERSHEY lineup Sunday. Souray scored a goal in a 5-1 win over the Phantoms.

Walton to call number 1000: BEARS play-by-play broadcaster John Walton will call his 1,000th

AHL game this Wednesday against Springfield. Walton is in his ninth year as the ‚¬Å“Voice of the BEARS ‚¬Â and also called games in the AHL for the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks.

Practice schedule: The BEARS hit the ice on Tuesday at Giant Center for practice at 10:00 a.m., with media availability at approximately 11:15 a.m.

Upcoming promotions: Wednesday, January 26 is HERSHEYPARK Pass night, when the BEARS take on the Springfield Falcons at 7:00 p.m. A free HERSHEYPARK pass for the 2011 season, valid through July 4, 2011 will be given away to all fans in attendance.
