LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

At Worcester (11/6): Defenseman Danny Groulx scored in the ninth-round of the shootout as the Manchester Monarchs fought to the bitter end of their 2-1 shootout loss to the Worcester Sharks at the DCU Center on Friday night. Right wing Trevor Lewis scored the lone goal for the Monarchs in the fifth-round of the shootout. On top of Groulx's game-winning tally, center Dwight Helminen also scored for the Sharks in the second round of the shootout. Defenseman David Kolomatis is the only Monarchs player to find the back of the net in regulation. Helminen scored the lone regulation goal for the Sharks. Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Bernier stopped 45-of-46 shots and seven shootout snipers. Sharks Alex Stalock made 29 saves and stopped eight shootout shots. Manchester went 1-for-6 on the power play. Worcester was 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

Vs. Hershey (11/7): Center Oskar Osala had a goal and an assist as the Hershey Bears ended the Manchester Monarchs undefeated streak on home ice with a 4-1 game at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Center Oscar Moller scored the lone goal for the Monarchs. Hershey found offense from defenseman Zach Miskovic, center Jay Beagle, Osala and right wing Francois Bouchard. Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Bernier made 34 saves on 38 shots. Bears netminder Michal Neuvrith earned the win with 28 saves. Manchester was 0-for-2 with the man advantage. Hershey did not have a power play.

NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (9-3-1-1, 20 points) remain in first place in the Atlantic Division with 20 points in their first 14 games and are tied for third overall in the AHL behind the Rochester Americans (11-1-1-0, 23 points) and the Texas Stars (10-2-0-2, 22 points). In the Atlantic Division, the Monarchs lead a three-way tie for second place among the Worcester Sharks (8-4-0-1, 17 points), the Lowell Devils (7-5-3-0, 17 points) and the Springfield Falcons (7-5-2-1, 17 points) by three points.

The Monarchs undefeated streak at the Verizon Wireless Arena this season ended in a 4-1 loss to the Hershey Bears on Saturday night. Manchester won their first six home games this season.

Manchester is winless in their last three road games having dropped a 4-1 contest to Springfield on October 16 followed by a 3-2 overtime loss to Hartford on November 1 and a 2-1 shootout loss to Worcester on Friday night.

Prior to Friday night's shootout loss to Worcester, the last time the Monarchs were in a shootout was on April 1, 2009 when they topped the Lowell Devils 3-2.

The Monarchs penalty kill ranks second in the AHL. They have given up only three goals when their opponent has been on the power play in 63 attempts.

Manchester has been outshot by their opponent 12-of-14 games thus far this season. The two games that the Monarchs led in the shots category was their 6-1 victory over the Springfield Falcons on October 18 at the Verizon Wireless Arena and a 3-2 overtime loss to the Hartford Wolf Pack on Sunday, November 1 at the XL Center.

The Monarchs have given up the lowest number of goals to their opponents in the league. Monarchs goaltenders Jonathan Bernier and Jeff Zatkoff have stopped all but 23 shots they have faced this season.

Friday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Sharks was the first time this season the Monarchs have lost a game when they have scored the first goal.

Rookie center Andrei Loktionov leads the Monarchs in points with 13 (5-8=13). He is also tied for the team lead with center Oscar Moller (5-5=10) in goals scored with five.

Loktionov and Moller are also tied with right wing Scott Parse for the team lead in plus/minus with a plus-8.

Loktionov's 13 points are also tied for first among the AHL's rookies.

Parse was recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on Friday, October 23 and made his NHL debut on Saturday, October 24 in Phoenix against the Coyotes. He collected his first NHL point, an assist, in his debut and then tallied his first NHL goal in the Kings 2-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday, October 29. Parse has three points (1-2=3) in seven games with the Kings.

Parse ranks second on the Monarchs in scoring with 11 points (2-9=11) and his nine assists lead Manchester.

Parse was on a three-game assist and point streak with four assists and six points prior to his call-up on Friday, October 23.

Moller scored a penalty shot goal in the Monarchs 2-1 win over the Providence Bruins on Friday, October 30. The last time the Monarchs had a penalty shot was April 4, 2009 against Worcester when left wing Matt Moulson failed to score against goaltender Thomas Greiss. The Monarchs last scored on a penalty shot on February 26, 2005 when center Matt Ryan scored against Hartford's netminder Steve Valiquette. All-time, the Monarchs have scored five goals on 26 penalty shots.

Moller's penalty shot goal on Friday, October 30 served as the game-winner giving him three game-winning goals which is tied for first place in the AHL.

Right wing Brandon Segal (3-6=9) is ranked fourth on the Monarchs roster.

Left wing Bud Holloway (4-2=6) is ranked second on the Monarchs in goal scoring with four goals.

Defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov's (3-3=6) three-game point streak came to an end on Friday night when he failed to put a point on the scoreboard. Voynov collected two goals and an assist in three games since Friday, October 30.

Bernier has a record of 6-3-1 in his first 10 games of the season. His six wins are tied for third place in the AHL.

The second-year netminder is tied for the AHL lead with Texas' Matt Climie, Lowell's Mike McKenna and Hamilton's Curtis Sanford with two shutouts each.

Bernier is ranked fourth in the league with a 1.67 goals-against-average and is ranked second with a .953 save percentage.

In four games with the Monarchs, Zatkoff has a .75 goals-against-average and a .978 save percentage. He also has a record of 3-1-0 with one shutout. Zatkoff's 239 minutes played are not enough to rank him among the top goaltenders in the AHL.
