Albany River Rats News Release

ALBANY, NY-The Albany River Rats announced today details surrounding their promotional schedule for this weekend's home games against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday, November 13th and the Norfolk Admirals on Saturday, November 14th.

United Way of the Capital Region is the presenting sponsor of Friday night's 7:00 p.m. game, which has been dubbed "Vampire Appreciation Night" as lucky fans will win movie passes to the highly-anticipated second installment of the Twilight saga, "New Moon," coming to theaters November 20th. The 7:00 p.m. game between the River Rats and the Penguins will also feature the popular Aramark Dollar Dogs promotion, where all fans can get $1.00 hot dogs and small sodas at select Times Union Center concession stands. The Battle of the Bands series, presented by Success Recordings, will also continue Friday night, as local bands "Idette & the Sun Runners" and "The Juice Junkees" battle for the right to move on to the second round. Fan and judge's votes will have an equal say in which band advances.

Then on Saturday evening the American Red Cross of Northeastern New York and the River Rats have teamed-up for a special "Mystery Puck" fundraiser as Albany hosts Norfolk at 7:00 p.m. Every River Rat player signed a limited number of special-edition pucks, which have been gift-rapped to cover the autograph from view. The "Mystery Pucks" will be sold on the concourse throughout the night for $10.00 a piece, with all of the proceeds benefiting the American Red Cross of Northeastern NY. Fans will also have the ability to win additional surprises as select "Mystery" pucks will also have prizes including team autographed merchandise, tickets to Disney On Ice, Kicker Arenacross and much more.

United Way of the Greater Capital Region measures and tracks the impact of every donation to United Way's Community Care Fund, making sure your contribution helps those who need it most and creating lasting change in our community. Last year United Way of the Greater Capital Region touched the lives of more than 86,000 people in cities, towns and villages from Albany to Saratoga, Troy to Schenectady, and Mechanicville to Schoharie. United Way 2-1-1 Northeast Region is one easy number to call for free, confidential information on just about anything you have questions about on Monday through Friday from 9 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon.

The American Red Cross of Northeastern New York helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Last year, nearly 1,000 residents of the Capital Region and surrounding areas were provided free, emergency assistance by ARCNENY after disasters such as fires, floods, and power outages. In addition, thousands were assisted by the Red Cross after the December 2008 ice storm; more than 700 victims received shelter with the Red Cross during that time. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money and blood from the American people to do its work. An average of 90 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs. For more information about your local Red Cross, visit www.redcrossneny.org or call (518) 458-8111.
