Peoria Rivermen News Release
NEWS AND NOTES
End of an Era...The Rivermen were happy to see a stretch of nine straight losses in Milwaukee end on Friday night. Peoria's 4-3 shootout win was the first Rivermen win at the Bradley Center since March 16, 2007.
Playing with power...After going just 1-for-13 in their previous two games, the Rivermen power play was 4-for-7 over their two games this week. At the same time, they held their opponents to a combined 0-for-5 on their power plays. Peoria's power play now ranks second in the AHL (23.2 percent).
Punching the clock...Seven of the first 13 games of the season have gone into overtime. Five of them have now gone into a shootout. Both of those numbers lead the league up to this point. The Rivermen have scored on 13 out of their 28 chances in the shootout. No other team has scored more than 6 times in the shootout.
Congratulations are in order...Lars Eller was called up to the St. Louis Blues on Thursday and scored a goal in his NHL debut. He became the sixth Danish born player to play in the National Hockey League. There are only three other players from Denmark currently in the NHL: Frans Nielsen (NY Islanders), Jannick Hansen (Vancouver) and Peter Regin (Ottawa).
Sharing the wealth...Four different players scored their first goal of the season over the last two games as their seven goals in regulation were scored by seven different players. Danny Richmond, Bryce Lampman, Julian Talbot and Brett Sonne all scored their first of the year.
Talbot gets back on track...Talbot's first goal came in his 11th game of the season, matching a career-high 10 games without a goal. The third-year AHL player has finished with 24 and 20 goals respectively in his first two seasons but was held without a goal in 10-straight games between March 7th and 24th last season.
Same team new name...Peoria is hoping that a name change does not affect the success that they have had against the Calgary Flames affiliate when they welcome the Abbotsford Heat on Friday. The Rivermen have posted a combined record of 31-6-0-3 against Quad City and Omaha. Having met 10 times in each of the previous four seasons, the Rivermen and Heat will play just four times this year.
