Monarchs Trade Joe Houk to Greenville Swamp Rabbits and Eric Neilson to Missouri Mavericks

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Manchester Monarchs Head Coach, Rich Seeley, announced today that defenseman, Joe Houk, was traded to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits and forward, Eric Neilson, was traded to the Missouri Mavericks.

Houk, 25, played in nine games for the Monarchs this season without recording a point. The six-foot, 204-pound defenseman played seven games with the Elmira Jackals to begin the season, adding one assist, and signed with the Monarchs on December 4, 2015.

The UMass-Lowell (H-East) product signed with the Toledo Walleye out of college, and played in 25 games with the Walleye, recording seven points on one goal and six assists. Houk was then traded to the Elmira Jackals on March 9, 2015, and played in 14 games for the Jackals notching six points on one goal and five assists.

Neilson, 31, participated in Manchester training camp but did not play in a game for the Monarchs, as he was loaned to the St. John's IceCaps (AHL) prior to Opening Night. With St. John's, Neilson played in six games without recording a point, earning nine penalty minutes.

The Fredericton, New Brunswick native is in his 11th professional season and has spent time with the Bakersfield Condors, Long Beach Ice Dogs and Alaska Aces of the ECHL and Peoria Rivermen (AHL), Hamilton Bulldogs, San Antonio Rampage, Norfolk Admirals, Syracuse Crunch and IceCaps of the AHL.

Neilson was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings #143 overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

The Monarchs are back in action Friday, January 22 (7 p.m.) when they visit the Adirondack Thunder for the first of a three-game series with their division rivals, with Saturday and Sunday's games being held in Manchester.
