York Blanks Atlanta in 1-0 Win for Greenville
January 18, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Greenville Swamp Rabbits and the Atlanta Gladiators played to a scoreless tie after two periods to start the MLK Day matinee. Atlanta led the shot count after the second, 22-18 over the Greenville, including two prime breakaway opportunities by Mike Merrifiled both stopped by Swamp Rabbit netminder Alan York.
The Swamp Rabbits broke the deadlock at the 5:31 mark of the third period. Gladiators' goaltender, Kent Patterson saved an initial shot off the stick of Justin DaSilva, but the puck rebounded off his pad to Scott Fleming standing in the slot for an easy finish on the rebound. Michael St. Croix was given the secondary assist while DaSliva picked up his 10th helper on Fleming's 11th goal of the season.
The lone goal for the Swamp Rabbits would be enough to beat the Gladiators as York registered the 31 save shutout, his first of the season. The Gladiators outshot Greenville 31-30 in the losing effort.
Atlanta fell to 24-13-2 to stay at 50 points and in fourth place in the ECHL's Eastern Conference while Greenville improved to 19-15-6 and 44 points to stay in seventh place within the East.
