(RC: Scofield-G in Rush Debut); (EVN: Moon-2 G, 4 unanswered goals)

Facing each other for the first time since the 2012 CHL season, the Rush and IceMen skated to a scoreless first period before each team's offense unloaded in the second. The Rush built themselves a 2-0 lead within the first 3 minutes of the second, but the IceMen fired back with 3 of their own to take the lead in the second, and eventually win 4-2.

Danny Battochio hung on after an empty-net goal and kept Indy off the sheet, getting his first shutout of the year in a 4-0 win.

---Saturday, January 16th -FORT WAYNE KOMETS 1, RAPID CITY RUSH 0

(FTW: Perlini-GWPPG w/3:33 left in game, Nagle-21 Sv Shutout-3rd of Yr)

Defense was key in the first matchup between the Fort Wayne Komets and the Rush since the opening round of the 2012 CHL Playoffs. Both teams were scoreless for almost all of regulation until the Komets earned their fifth and final power play of the game with under four minutes to play. Brett Perlini got free in front of the Rush net and slammed home a loose puck, giving the Komets the only goal of the game with 56:27 played en route to a 1-0 win.

---Sunday, January 17th - FORT WAYNE KOMETS 3, RAPID CITY RUSH 1

(FTW: Perry, Thompson, Thomas-G Each); (RC: Stefanovich-12th G of Yr-Leads Rush)

The Komets built a 2-0 cushion in the first 11 minutes of the game before Mikhail Stefanovich sliced their lead in half with 93 seconds gone by in the second. Despite numerous chances, the Rush could not equalize and Kyle Thomas notched an insurance goal late to help the Komets sweep the Rush with a 3-1 win.

Notes and NumbersDefense Wins Championships - Friday night's loss featured the first time since Game 7 of last year's Opening Round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs against the Quad City Mallards that both the Rush and their opponent failed to score in the first 40 minutes of play. The Rush eventually won that game 2-1.

End of Many Streaks - At the conclusion of Saturday night's first of two clashes with the Fort Wayne Komets, the Rush saw many impressive streaks come to an end. For starters, Danny Battochio held his opponent scoreless for 120:11 of hockey dating back to the final goal he allowed in Evansville on Wednesday night, to the only goal he surrendered last night to Fort Wayne, stopping more than 60 consecutive shots on net in the span of 72 hours. Battochio has also held his opponent scoreless for the first 55+ minutes of a contest four times in his last six starts. Additionally, the Rush penalty kill saw their impressive streak of killed penalties come to a halt at 15, one shy of the 16 straight they killed off earlier in the season, as the man-down unit held the best power play in the ECHL to an 0/4 count until the final 3:33 of the game.

Broadway Joe - On Sunday night, one of the most important people in the eight-year history of the Rapid City Rush hits another milestone in his illustrious career. Rush Head Coach and GM, Joe Ferras, will coach his 500th game as the bench boss of the Rush coming into the finale of this road trip in Indiana. The person who has given Rapid City the quality of hockey it deserves, Ferras has reached multiple milestones in the Black Hills, winning the 2010 CHL Coach of the Year award, coaching his 400th CHL game (only the fourth person in CHL history to pass 400 games coached), leading the Rush to 35+ wins or more in a season for six straight years, while also guiding the Rush to the playoffs in each of those seasons. His accomplishments are all summarized by the most important of all of them: his first championship as a head coach in the 2010 season, when he lead the Rush to a 43-win season (still a franchise record), a 6-game finish in the CHL Finals over the Allen Americans, and in winning the title, made Rapid City the fourth team in CHL history to snag the league's top reward in just its second year of existence. In the 500 games he's spent on the Rush bench, Ferras has an all-time record in Rapid City of 271-182-46, with a win percentage of .588. On behalf of all of those in the Rapid City Rush organization, and those that you have positively affected Coach, congratulations on your milestone, on 500 Rush games, and here's to many MANY more to come!
