Monarchs Streak Ends At 12

ROCHESTER, NY - The Rochester Americans snapped the Manchester Monarchs 12-game winning streak by handing them a 3-2 loss in front of 7,465 fans at the Blue Cross Arena on Friday night.
Manchester (34-13-6-1) is leading the Atlantic Division with 75 points. Rochester (35-16-1-0) is ranked first in the North Division with 71 points.
Right wing Lauri Tukonen scored his 10th goal of the season to put the Monarchs on the scoreboard at 8:51 of the opening period. Center Shay Stephenson picked up the loose puck behind the Americans net and volleyed it into the slot. Tukonen fired a one-timer past goaltender Craig Anderson to give Manchester a 1-0 lead.
On the power play, the Americans made tape-to-tape passes and capitalized on the man advantage with center Janis Sprukts' 12th goal of the season at 18:41 of the first period. Left wing Dylan Hunter fed the puck from behind the Monarchs net to center Marek Zagrapan at the right face-off circle. Zagrapan found Sprukts open on the left doorstep and sent the puck over. Sprukts flipped a wrist shot into the open net as Monarchs netminder Jason LaBarbera jumped from his left-to-right in an attempt to stop the puck.
The Americans took the 2-1 lead at 9:18 of the second period as Monarchs defenseman Peter Harrold's left skate caught an edge and tripped him up in the right face-off circle. Right wing Mark Mancari stripped Harrold of the puck and snapped a shot over LaBarbera's left shoulder for his 16th goal of the season.
Harrold made up for his stumble at 15:29 of the middle frame when he scored his third goal of the season. Center Marty Murray slid the puck behind the Americans net and to left wing Noah Clarke. Finding Harrold streaking in from the right point, Clarke put the puck on the defenseman's stick in the right face-off circle. Harrold blasted a one-timer past Anderson to tie the game at 2-2.
Rochester regained the lead at 7:39 of the final period when right wing Rob Globke backhanded in his fourth tally of the season. The Americans carried the puck deep into the Monarchs zone. Left wing Stefan Meyer pushed the puck into the crease on the right doorstep and center Drew Larman jammed away. LaBarbera made numerous saves on Larman before the puck slipped free to Globke for the goal.
LaBarbera took the loss with 28 saves. Anderson earned the victory stopping 24-of-26 shots.
Manchester went 0-for-3 on the power play. Rochester ended the Monarchs penalty killing streak by going 1-for-7 on the man advantage. The Monarchs had gone 42-for-42 when killing penalties over parts of nine games.
