
Columbus Returns Center Zenon Konopka To Syracuse

Syracuse, NY (February 16, 2007) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have returned on loan center Zenon Konopka to Syracuse. Columbus also reassigned goaltender Dan LaCosta to Dayton (ECHL). The Syracuse Crunch returned on loan center Trevor Frischmon to Dayton.
Konopka, 26, has appeared in three games with Columbus this season, registering 20 penalty minutes. This year he collected 11 goals, 24 assists and 97 penalty minutes in 42 games with the Portland Pirates. In 266 career AHL games, he has 75 goals, 132 assists and 804 penalty minutes. He tallied four goals and three assists for seven points with 48 penalty minutes in 23 career NHL games, all during the 2005-06 season with Anaheim. Konopka was acquired by Columbus with left wing Curtis Glencross and a conditional seventh round pick in either the 2007 or 2008 NHL Entry Draft from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for right wing Joe Motzko, center Mark Hartigan and a fourth round pick in the 2007 Entry Draft on Friday, January 26.
The Niagara Falls, Ontario native played four seasons with the Ottawa 67s of the Ontario Hockey League from 1998-2002. In 242 career OHL games, he registered 185 points (53g, 132a) and 389 penalty minutes. In 2000-01, he tallied 65 points (20g, 45a) and 120 penalty minutes in 66 games and added 7 goals, 13 assists in 20 playoff games to help Ottawa advance to the Memorial Cup Tournament.
LaCosta, 20, has appeared in 14 games with Syracuse this season, posting a 3-4-1 record, a 2.78 goals against average and a .892 save percentage. He tallied his first professional shutout on Friday, February 2 against Springfield and followed it up with a shutout against Rochester on Saturday, February 3. In seven games with Dayton this season, LaCosta has posted a 2-4-1 record and a 3.62 goals against average. A native of Labrador City, New Foundland, LaCosta was selected by Columbus in the third round, 93rd overall, in the 2004 Entry Draft.
Frischmon, 25, appeared in 10 games with Syracuse this season, registering two assists. The Ham Lake, Minnesota, native appeared in 19 games with Dayton this season, tallying 2 goals, 5 assists and 14 penalty minutes.
