Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ON - Kyle Chipchura scored the game-tying goal with 36 seconds left in the third period and added two assists to help lead the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 5-4 shootout win over the Toronto Marlies on Friday night at Copps Coliseum. The win, in front of 7,647 fans, extended Hamilton's point streak to a season-high 11-games (9-0-1-1) and improved its record to 32-18-2-2 on the season.
Hamilton opened the scoring on the power play when Mathieu Biron notched his sixth goal of the season at 4:26 of the first period. Biron took a feed from Chipchura and beat Toronto netminder Justin Pogge with a slapshot from the point. Cory Urquhart also eared an assist on the goal.
The Marlies jumped in front with two goals in 51 seconds of the opening frame to make the score 2-1. Brett Engelhardt (7:48) with the extra-man and Colin Murphy (8:39) were the goal scorers.
The teams then exchanged markers in a span of 2:09 in the first frame. Duncan Milroy netted his 23rd goal of the season to even the score at 2-2 at the 10:39 mark on the power play. Jeremy Williams then restored the Marlies lead at 12:48 with his fourth tally of the campaign to make the score 3-2.
Hamilton would even the score before the end of the opening frame when Corey Locke snapped home a Dan Jancevski rebound for his 15th goal of the year. Chipchura earned his second assist of the night on the goal that tied the score 3-3.
Toronto took a 4-3 lead when Williams tipped in a Brad Leeb point shot past Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis at 11:22 of the middle stanza. Murphy also assisted on the power play goal.
Chipchura then scored his ninth goal of the season on a power play to send the game to overtime with 36 seconds remaining in regulation play. Mikhail Grabovski and Matt D'Agostini earned assists on the game-tying goal.
After a scoreless overtime, the game went to a shootout. Alexander Suglobov was the only the Marlies shooter to score on Danis, while Urquhart and Mikhail Grabovski made good their attempts to lift the Bulldogs to the 5-4 shootout win.
Danis stopped 29 of the 33 shots he faced to earn his 16th win of the season for Hamilton, while Toronto's netminder Justin Pogge made 28 saves of 32 shots in a losing effort.
In a pre-game ceremony, the Bulldogs honoured forward Duncan Milroy, defenceman Jean-Philippe Cote and netminder Yann Danis for becoming the Franchise's all-time games played leaders at their respective positions.
