Monarchs Sign Likens

MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have signed defenseman Jeff Likens to an amateur tryout agreement and reassigned defenseman Eric Werner to the ECHL's Reading Royals, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today.

Likens, 21, recently finished his senior season at the University of Wisconsin with six points (1-5=6) and 42 penalty minutes in 40 games. The 5-foot-11, 178-pound native of Barrington, Illinois, spent four seasons with the Badgers (2003-07) and collected 56 points (9-47=56) and 194 penalty minutes in 159 collegiate games.

Werner, 24, has appeared in 56 games with the Monarchs this season collecting 28 points (5-23=28) and 29 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound native of Gross Pointe Woods, Michigan, spent three games with the Royals this season and recorded two points (0-2=2). Werner split the 2005-06 season between the Monarchs and Royals. In seven games with Manchester, he collected seven assists and 10 penalty minutes. With the Royals last season, Werner registered 42 points (12-30=42) and 38 penalty minutes in 58 games.
