DCU to host Sharks Street Brigade Saturday
March 28, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Worcester Sharks News Release
WORCESTER - The Worcester Sharks announced today that the organization will hold a Sharks Street Brigade in conjunction with DCU - Digital Federal Credit Union at their Worcester Branch located at 225 Shrewsbury St. This Street Brigade was originally scheduled to be held on March 17, but was rescheduled to Saturday, March 31, 2007 due to a snow storm. There will be two sessions from 11:00 - 12:00 and 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.
Each participant in the Sharks Street Brigade will receive an initial $5 from DCU to open a Looney Tunes⢠Kids' Club Account.
The Sharks Street Brigade is an interactive, mobile street hockey experience geared toward elementary school-aged children in order to generate an interest in hockey and make it more accessible to local youth.
Children can enjoy the mobile rink which consists of one-foot-high light foam boards and allows them to play street hockey in a designated area like a parking lot, blacktop or gymnasium floor free of charge. All that is needed to participate is sneakers and a positive attitude; the Sharks will provide nets, sticks, balls and necessary equipment for goalies.
The Sharks Street Brigade staff will provide professional basic instruction and conduct drills and short scrimmages, or simply provide an hour of fun for anyone involved. The scrimmages will be refereed by everyone's favorite mascot, FINZ!!
"This is a fantastic way to get the Worcester Sharks organization more involved with children in the community," said Sharks President and CEO Michael T. Lehr. "It is the Sharks priority to get more kids involved in hockey and this is a great tool to do that."
To sign up for the Sharks/DCU Street Brigade, please visit the Sharks website at http://www.sharksahl.com/dcustreetbrigade.asp and fill out the sign up sheet. Participants who signed up for the first one need to re-sign up to ensure a spot.
