MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have released defenseman Eric Werner from his American Hockey League contract, Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today.
Werner, 25, recorded three points (1-2=3) and 10 penalty minutes in 15 games with the Monarchs this season. He also appeared in 74 games with the Monarchs from 2005-07 and collected 36 points (5-31=36) and 41 penalty minutes in those two season with Manchester. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound native of Gross Pointe Woods, Michigan, split the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons between the Monarchs and the ECHL's Reading Royals. In 64 games with Royals, he collected 49 points (15-34=49) and 42 penalty minutes. Werner split the 2007-08 season between Finland and Germany recording 10 points (3-7=10) and 18 penalty minutes in 28 games with the Ilves Tampere in Finland and five points (1-4=5) and 14 penalty minutes in 23 games with the DEG Metro Stars of the German Elite League.
The Monarchs host the Atlantic Division leading Providence Bruins in their annual New Year's Eve Celebration at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Wednesday, December 31 at 7:00 p.m. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Monarchs megaphone, courtesy of TD Banknorth. The first intermission will highlight the annual Baby Race where eight babies will race across a carpet placed at center ice for prizes, courtesy of WZID.
