Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators three-game home winning streak was snapped on New Year's Eve as the Albany River Rats handed the Sens a 2-1 defeat at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

The B-Sens spent the last five minutes of the first period skating short. Binghamton killed off more than three minutes off a Peter Regin double-minor for high sticking when the Sens were called for too many men. Albany quickly converted the two-man advantage when Nicolas Blanchard deflected a Michael Ryan one-timer past the glove hand of netminder Brian Elliott to give Albany the lone goal of the first period.

Albany dominated the second period with a 19-3 shot advantage. Pat Dwyer made good on one of those shots, taking a cross-crease pass from Yannick Tifu and scooping it past the blocker of Elliott to give Albany a 2-0 lead.

The B-Sens top-ranked power-play unit finally struck early in the third period when Ryan Shannon skated along the near boards and found Danny Bois slashing down the slot. Bois tapped it past netminder Daniel Manzato for his ninth goal of the season.

Elliott made 35 saves in the losing effort for Binghamton. The B-Sens return to home ice on Friday night when they host the Houston Aeros for the first time in franchise history. Good seats remain for this contest. Tickets can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com, by calling ticket master at 722-7272, or at the Arena box office inside the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
