Springfield Falcons News Release
December 31, 2008 - The Springfield Falcons lost to the Hershey Bears 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the MassMutual Center. The Falcons are now winless in their last seven games (0-6-1-0) and they will next next host Manchester on Friday night at the MassMutual Center.
The Falcons fell into some penalty trouble in the opening frame as Hershey used a power play goal from Mathieu Perreault at 12:10 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes of play.
The game remained a one-goal contest into the third period until Hershey's Steve Pinizzotto converted on an Andrew Joudrey rebound at 7:53 of the final frame giving the Bears a 2-0 advantage. Despite outshooting the Bears in the game 30-27, the Falcons came up short in finding the equalizer.
Hershey goaltender Simeon Varlamov posted the shutout making 31 saves, while Falcons netminder Jeff Deslauriers stopped 25 of 27 shots in his 2008-09 Falcons debut.
