Chops Blanked by Griffins 6-0 on New Year's Eve
December 31, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Iowa Chops News Release
2008 ended on a sour note on Wednesday night in Grand Rapids, as the Griffins shutout the Iowa Chops 6-0, led by goaltender Jimmy Howard's 24 saves. It was the 4th time in the last six Griffins games that they have shutout an opponent. The backbreaker for the Chops may have come early in the 2nd period. As Iowa was killing a penalty, the Griffins brought the puck in on an apparent offside, but the play continued ultimately leading to a 2-0 Griffins lead as they never looked back. Grand Rapids scored one goal in the 1st period, two in the 2nd period and two more in the 3rd period. Chops goaltender JP Levasseur made 30 saves on the night. The best Chops chances came off the sticks of Petteri Wirtanen and Eric Boguniecki, who were both denied on point-blank chances from the top of the crease.
