Manchester, NH- The Manchester Monarchs on Wednesday released center Dan Riva (Framingham, MA). The Monarchs 2002 preseason roster includes 24 players (14 forwards, seven defensemen, and three goaltenders) after the latest transaction.
Riva, 27, totaled four goals, one assist, and five points in 29 games with the Monarchs last year. Riva's 2001-02 season also included a stint with the Reading Royals of the East Coast Hockey League. The 6-foot, 195-pound centerman collected 10 goals, 17 assists, and 27 points in 37 games with the Royals.
Riva saw action in all four Monarchs 2002 preseason games. The veteran of three full seasons of professional hockey scored no points, collected six shots, and finished with an Even plus/minus rating.
The Monarchs open their second season of American Hockey League action at the Verizon Wireless Arena when they renew their regular season rivalry with the Lowell Lock Monsters on Friday. The puck drops at 7:35 p.m. Friday's Home Opener will be broadcast live on WMUR Television with Charlie Sherman handling the on-air duties.
