Manitoba Moose News Release

Today the Manitoba Moose announced that they will hold a Military Appreciation Night on Saturday, October 12. The event will be presented by Peerless Garments. The Moose will be hosting the Worcester IceCats at the Winnipeg Arena with game time at 7:30 p.m.

This will be a very special night at the Arena as the team will be wearing, for one game only, the specially-made home jerseys for this occasion. The jerseys will be a green colour with camouflage striping in honour of Charlie Company, 2 PPCLI. Two jerseys will be given away at the game, with the remainder auctioned off at the game and on the Internet.

"The Moose feel that this is an important gesture to show our support to our armed forces who are working diligently through these volatile times," stated Manitoba Moose Chief Operating Officer Robert Thorsten.

The organization has also generously provided 300 tickets to the soldiers who were in Afghanistan as part of Operation Apollo and offered a discount at the box office for all other military members. If people show their military ID, they will receive half price tickets at the Winnipeg Arena Box Office. The fans will be greeted at the Arena by two army vehicles parked in the entrance way and a local youth choir will sing the national anthem.

The Manitoba Moose, in conjunction with Second Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light InfanryI, will be holding a press conference on Thursday, October 10 at Kapyong Barracks. The conference will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the Premier of Manitoba Gary Doer and the Deputy Mayor Gord Steeves on hand to assist in unveiling the special Moose uniforms for the October 12 contest.
